VR Headsets Might Help Cows Produce More Milk: Study

India is one of the biggest consumer hubs for tech gadgets. At the same time, the country is also one of the largest agricultural producers. Over time, the agricultural production graph has been gradually diminishing. Worry not, technology might have a solution. Research suggests VR headsets for cows might help to produce better milk.

VR Headsets For Cows

It might certainly sound absurd. But farmers in Moscow, Russia have strapped modified VR headsets to cows to experiment if it improved their mood and milk production. The VR headsets for cows projected summer fields, pleasing landscapes, and open spaces. The headsets were 'modified' where the colors were tuned for the cow's eyes and the structural features were also adapted so it could fit the animal's head.

Surprisingly, the VR headsets have got the results the researchers and farmers wanted. At least on the primary level. The results show that the headsets have reduced the cow's anxiety. It has also increased its overall sentiment. Although, it is too early to say about the quality and volume of milk production.

What About Animal Rights?

The researchers plan to continue using the VR headsets for cows for a 'comprehensive' study, reports Endgadget. But there are still many questions that arise with this new concept. For one, it remains unclear if the cows will produce better milk, even if their anxiety has reduced. Secondly, why not put the cows in actual green fields more often?

That's not all. There are also questions about the VR headset. What about battery life? Isn't there a risk of disturbing the cows when the headset is taken off? Won't it increase the anxiety in the animals when the dreary reality of plain and confining farms are brought to picture again? What about animal rights?

Unfortunately, human growth and rapid expansion have largely diminished real green pastures for cows to graze on. Summery fields aren't available anymore and as The Moscow Times reports: "the grass is greener in a virtual world". Maybe the VR headsets could be a reminder of things used to be, but it's still questionable if it's for the better or for worse.
