Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker Mini launched: Specs and features

Xiaomi had earlier announced that it would launch two surprise products along with the Mi Mix 2S smartphone. Turns out the two surprise products are the Mi Gaming Laptop and the Mi AI Speaker Mini. The new speaker is expected to compete with Amazon's Echo Dot, Google's Home Mini and Apple's HomePod.

The Xiaomi Mi AI Speaker Mini comes with a price tag of CNY 169 (roughly Rs 1,800) in China. As of now, the company has not announced whether or not the device will be made available in global markets. To recall, the Chinese manufacturer forayed into the smart speaker market last year by launching the Mi AI Speaker.

Coming back to the Mi AI Speaker Mini, it comes with similar functionalities as its larger sibling. This means, it will be working as a voice-activated personal assistant powered by AI. Notably, it can be bused to control many other products belong from Xiaomi's smart home lineup.

Under the hood, the device is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and it has a 1.5-inch 2W speaker. While it doesn't pack an inbuilt battery, there is a 5V/2A wall adapter that plugs into a microUSB port.

When it comes to design, the Xiaomi Mi Speaker Mini is so small that it can fit in your palm. Thanks to its small size, the speaker can be carried around easily. Looking at the official images, the Mi Speaker Mini has four microphones at the top along with volume control buttons, a microphone mute button, and a play/pause button. Additionally, there is also a LED in the middle that lights up when in use.

As for functionality, the Mi AI Speaker Mini can set alarms and reminders, take down notes, read the news, provide info on sport games, do conversions, even calculate distance and duration for trips.
