God of War Laufey, Wolverine, Control Resonant, More Among Biggest Announcements at PlayStation State of Play
Sony used its latest PlayStation State of Play showcase to kick off Summer Game Fest season with a packed lineup of PS5 announcements. The presentation delivered first-party reveals, extended gameplay demos, release dates, surprise returns, and updates on several highly anticipated titles.
The livestream aired on June 2 and ran for more than an hour, featuring what Sony described as "more than 60 minutes of updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from top studios around the world."

God of War Laufey Officially Revealed
Sony ended the showcase with one of its biggest announcements: God of War Laufey. Developed by Santa Monica Studio, the upcoming PS5 exclusive shifts the spotlight away from Kratos and instead puts players in control of Faye, also known as Laufey.
The debut trailer showcased a faster combat system focused on agility, magical abilities, and aerial movement. Unlike Kratos' heavy-hitting style, Laufey appears to rely on speed and spell-based attacks. The footage also introduced several unusual companions and creatures, including a giant six-legged flying cat and a talking gelatinous cube named Phranque.
Sony did not announce a release date, but the game is confirmed for PlayStation 5.
Marvel's Wolverine Gets Extended Gameplay Showcase
Insomniac Games delivered the longest gameplay demonstration of the event with nearly seven minutes of footage from Marvel's Wolverine.
Launching exclusively on PS5 on September 15, the game features Logan in his classic yellow costume as he hunts enemies across multiple environments. The gameplay focused heavily on brutal melee combat, environmental traversal, stealth sequences, and Wolverine's regenerative abilities.
The demo also highlighted a more mature tone, featuring graphic combat and heavy use of blood effects. Sony originally announced the game in 2021, making this one of the most anticipated first-party releases on PlayStation's upcoming calendar.
Control Resonant Receives September Release Date
Remedy Entertainment confirmed that Control Resonant will launch on September 24, 2026.
The sequel follows Dylan Faden, who takes over as the primary protagonist inside the Federal Bureau of Control. According to Remedy creative director Mikael Kasurinen, Dylan will be the sole playable character, although Jesse Faden remains an important part of the narrative.
The latest trailer teased new paranormal threats, shifting environments, and expanded reality-bending mechanics that build upon the foundation established by the original Control.

Sony also announced a new Until Dawn sequel scheduled for 2027. The upcoming entry retains the series' interactive horror format but introduces a completely new cast, story, and location.
Despite recent uncertainty surrounding the project, Bungie's Marathon made an appearance during the showcase. Sony confirmed Season 2 for the extraction shooter, signaling continued support for the title as PlayStation attempts to strengthen its live-service portfolio.
