VALORANT Mobile Is Official, But You Might Have to Wait: Here’s Everything You Need to Know

After years of rumors and leaked footage, Riot Games has officially pulled back the curtain on VALORANT Mobile, marking the tactical shooter's next big leap into the world of mobile gaming.

But while the PC version has been a global phenomenon since its debut, the mobile adaptation is taking a more cautious, region-focused approach, launching first in China before expanding elsewhere.

VALORANT Mobile Is Official: Here’s Everything You Need to Know

Co-Developed by LIGHTSPEED Studios, the Force Behind PUBG Mobile

While Riot Games remains at the helm of the VALORANT brand, they're not building this mobile port alone. They've partnered with LIGHTSPEED Studios, the developers behind PUBG Mobile-a game that essentially set the standard for mobile battle royale experiences. This partnership suggests Riot isn't simply porting over VALORANT to mobile; they're creating something that feels native to smartphones.

LIGHTSPEED's involvement adds a level of expertise that's hard to ignore. With awards from Google Play and Golden Joystick, the studio has experience in scaling shooters to mobile audiences across different regions.

Why Launch in China First?

Choosing China as the first stop for VALORANT Mobile makes sense. The country's mobile gaming market is enormous, and it's a space where titles like PUBG Mobile, Honor of Kings, and Mobile Legends thrive. Even though China's VALORANT PC community only got official servers in 2023, it quickly became competitive, with teams like EDward Gaming winning the 2024 VALORANT Champions.

By giving China early access to VALORANT Mobile, Riot is likely tapping into this momentum, letting the region establish its footprint early in the mobile esports scene.

Pre-Registration is Live in China

Players in China can now pre-register via the official site (valm.qq.com), with exclusive rewards like player cards for early adopters. While the website is region-locked and entirely in Chinese, the pre-registration process is straightforward for local players using QQ accounts.

As of now, there's no word on global pre-registration, but Riot has confirmed plans to expand "to as many players as possible." If past mobile launches are anything to go by, a global rollout seems like a question of when, not if.

VALORANT Mobile Isn't Just a Port

One of the standout points here is that VALORANT Mobile isn't merely a scaled-down version of its PC counterpart. Riot and LIGHTSPEED are introducing features designed specifically for mobile, including:

  • Mobile-exclusive maps
  • Simplified mechanics for touch controls
  • MVP animations tailored for the platform
  • A Replay mode, which fans have long requested for the PC version
  • A spectator interface styled after VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) broadcasts
  • Different tutorial modes for mobile-first players

What's Next for Global Players?

While China's pre-registration is already live, the global launch window remains less clear. Riot has hinted at a late 2025 global release, though specific timelines could shift based on how well the game performs in early tests.

The fact that Riot is co-developing VALORANT Mobile with a studio like LIGHTSPEED, which has teams spread across the U.S., U.K., Japan, South Korea, and more, suggests they're preparing for a wider rollout sooner rather than later.

Esports Implications: A New Frontier?

The arrival of VALORANT Mobile could significantly expand the game's esports ecosystem, especially as mobile esports continues to grow globally. With events like the 2025 Esports World Cup featuring five mobile titles (accounting for 20% of its lineup), the timing feels strategic. If VALORANT Mobile can capture even a fraction of PUBG Mobile's competitive scene, it could quickly become a mainstay in mobile tournaments.

This also opens up VALORANT's tactical shooter genre to regions and players who primarily game on mobile devices-a move that could reshape both player bases and viewership patterns.
