Sony’s PS5 Pro Launches with 16.7 Teraflops GPU, AI Upscaling, and 2TB Storage
Sony officially launched its highly anticipated PS5 Pro today, an enhanced version of the original PlayStation 5 (review), in select markets. Building on the power of the PS5, this upgraded console includes a more robust GPU, double the storage capacity, and AI upscaling technology aimed at delivering smoother gameplay and enhanced graphics.
While the console is missing a built-in disc drive, Sony has introduced options for users to expand its functionality through additional accessories.

Enhanced Hardware for Next-Level Graphics and Performance
Announced initially in September, the PS5 Pro introduces a series of hardware upgrades that improve both graphical performance and overall gaming experience. The console retains the same AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU as the standard PS5 but includes an advanced RDNA GPU, boosting the device's compute power to 16.7 teraflops. With 16GB of GDDR6 memory and an additional 2GB of DDR5 RAM for background system tasks, the PS5 Pro offers gamers enhanced multitasking capabilities and better load management during gameplay.
Storage has also seen a significant upgrade. The PS5 Pro is equipped with a custom 2TB SSD, doubling the capacity of the original PS5, allowing players to store more high-resolution games and media without needing external storage.
AI-Driven Upscaling and Ray-Tracing for Enhanced Visuals
Sony's PS5 Pro is designed to deliver a more immersive gaming experience, thanks to advanced ray-tracing technology and the debut of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) - a machine learning-based AI upscaling feature. With improved ray-tracing capabilities, players can expect more realistic lighting, shadows, and reflections, which add a layer of depth to games that rely heavily on graphical details. PSSR further enhances image quality by using AI to upscale visuals, bringing out fine details and delivering a crisper, clearer picture across supported titles.
The PS5 Pro's hardware improvements allow it to render games at higher resolutions and maintain smoother frame rates, particularly in graphically demanding titles. This upgrade is aimed at gamers who want to experience their favorite games at their highest quality settings, making full use of 4K displays.
A Lineup of Games Optimized for PS5 Pro
Sony has confirmed that 55 titles will be optimized for the PS5 Pro at launch, taking advantage of the console's enhanced hardware. These games have been updated to offer smoother frame rates and high-resolution rendering.

With its increased power and refined visuals, the PS5 Pro aims to deliver a more polished experience for titles designed with the Pro's capabilities in mind.
Pricing and Availability
The PS5 Pro is now available for purchase in select markets, with an MSRP of $699.99 in the United States. International pricing is as follows: £699.99 in the UK, €799.99 in the EU, and ¥119,980 in Japan. The console is available through participating retailers and can also be purchased directly from Sony's online store. However, Sony has not yet announced a launch date for the PS5 Pro in India.
To address the absence of a built-in disc drive, Sony is offering an attachable disc drive for $79.99, which gives users the option to play physical games. Additionally, a vertical stand is available for $29.99, allowing the console to be positioned upright for optimal airflow.
The PS5 Pro is available in the standard dual-tone black and white color scheme, along with a limited edition grey model, part of Sony's 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle.
