This hardware flaw in Nintendo switch can’t be fixed
The newfound hardware vulnerability is leaving millions of Nintendo Switch consoles vulnerable to a total jailbreak which will eventually allow the hackers to execute arbitrary code and run custom ROM
Nintendo Switch is one of the best selling gaming consoles which gives a direct competition to PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox lineup. The Nintendo Switch back then had outsold the major gaming consoles the PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox in its debut year. With games like the Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze which is set to arrive soon for the device, Nintendo Switch is set for the coming financial year. Nintendo had claimed back then that it will not release any new hardware for now. However, it seems like the company might not be able to stick to its plans and might have to release new hardware for the Nintendo Switch.

As per some reports from the web, newly found hardware vulnerability is leaving millions of Nintendo Switch consoles vulnerable to a total jailbreak which will eventually allow the hackers to execute arbitrary code and run custom ROMs on the device in addition with other things.
The vulnerability was first discovered by Kate Temkin who is a hardware hacker along with the members of the ReSwitched Project. The coldboot vulnerability is said to b associated with all the devices that are currently using the NVIDIA's Tegra line of embedded processors, specifically the NVIDIA Tegra X1 chip in the Nintendo Switch.
As per some sources from the web, the team has released the complete details of the vulnerability; exploit execution details, proof-of-concept and the mitigation measures that are said to be associated with the vulnerability on the GitHub. It is being further reported that the team have sent a public disclosure notice to Nvidia and Nintendo which contains info about the negative impacts and its contribution to the resolution of the security issue.

The report further suggested that the Fusée Gelée allows anyone who has the knowledge of how to take control of the Boot and Power Management Processor (BPMP) before any kind of system-directed security lock-out happens. This enables the hackers to execute any arbitrary code at the highest levels of privilege. Also, they can activate the Switch's recovery mode and create a USB control request to deliver an additional data stack which can be executed effortlessly on the BPMP, which allows them to install emulators, back up Switch games externally on a USB drive, etc.

At this moment there is no possible server-side patch which can be issued to fix the vulnerability as it is associated with the NVIDIA chips onboard, which simply points that all Nintendo Switch units sold so far across the world are vulnerable. The only resolution Nintendo can provide is that it can embed a different security code into the systems which are yet to be available in the market, to avoid further damages.
