FaceTime Coming to Apple TV: How Can I Get FaceTime & Video Conferencing With tvOS 17
Apple is set to introduce FaceTime to Apple TV through the upcoming tvOS 17 update. This update will bring a dedicated FaceTime app to Apple TV, allowing users to make video calls on their large TV screens using the camera from their iPhone or iPad.
According to Bob Borchers, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, tvOS 17 will greatly enhance the Apple TV experience by incorporating FaceTime and introducing new video conferencing capabilities. This update will enable Apple TV 4K users to easily connect with others right from the comfort of their living rooms. Furthermore, the update will bring additional features and improvements to further enhance the user experience, solidifying Apple TV as the preferred choice for Apple customers.

Seamless Integration with Continuity Camera
To enable this functionality, Apple will leverage its Continuity Camera feature, which allows users to launch the FaceTime app on Apple TV and establish a wireless connection with their iPhone or iPad. Additionally, users will have the ability to transfer ongoing calls from their iPhone to the Apple TV.
To ensure a broader range of video calling options, Apple is allowing developers to leverage its Continuity Camera API for Apple TV. This means that popular video calling apps like Zoom and Webex will be able to utilize the cameras of iPhones and iPads and create their own tvOS apps. This move opens up possibilities for developers to innovate and enhance the video calling experience, catering to diverse user needs and preferences.
Intuitive FaceTime Interface on Apple TV
The primary FaceTime interface on Apple TV is designed to ensure a seamless and immersive experience. The speakers will be automatically centered, and the frame will adjust dynamically if additional participants join the call.
SharePlay Support for Collaborative Viewing
Users will be delighted to find that they can enjoy the same FaceTime effects available on their phones, adding a touch of fun and personalization to their video calls. Moreover, the integration of SharePlay support will enable friends and family to enjoy movies and TV shows together while on a FaceTime call, thanks to a side-by-side interface.
The new FaceTime app for Apple TV will be introduced as part of the upcoming tvOS 17 update, expected to be released later this year.
