Google’s New ‘Google TV Streamer’ Set-Top Box Design and Remote Details Leaked
Google might be redefining the streaming device landscape with a fresh approach to its Google TV platform. Ditching the familiar Chromecast dongle format, recent leaks suggest that Google could be unveiling the "Google TV Streamer"-a new set-top box designed for a more prominent and robust presence.
From Dongle to Set-Top Box
Leaked images courtesy of 9to5Google reveal a slanted, pill-shaped device with a low-profile design meant to sit comfortably near your TV. This design shift might pave the way for features like Ultra Wideband-powered Tap to Cast, a functionality recently introduced with the Pixel Tablet.

Remote Gets a Refresh
The new Google TV Streamer comes with a redesigned remote control. While maintaining a familiar layout with a D-Pad, back and home buttons, the remote boasts some notable changes. The voice input key ditches the Google Assistant branding in favor of a generic microphone icon.

Additionally, the volume controls move to the front of the remote, and a mute button is added for convenience. Shortcut buttons for popular streaming services like YouTube and Netflix are also included, alongside a power button and a mysterious "Magic" or star button.
A New Name, But Unclear Future for Existing Chromecast
The new device sheds the "Chromecast" name entirely, opting for a name that reflects its function - the Google TV Streamer. This raises questions about the future of the existing Chromecast with Google TV (HD) device. Google hasn't confirmed if they'll continue selling both options, mirroring their earlier shift from "Chromecast built-in" to "Google Cast" technology for partner devices.
Launch and Availability
Google is hosting a major event on August 13th where the Pixel 9 phones and Pixel Watch 3 are expected to be unveiled. There's a chance the Google TV Streamer will be officially launched there, or at least announced with a confirmed release date in the near future.
