Aadhaar OTP Verification Mandatory on IRCTC for Tatkal Ticket - Here’s How to Link It

As announced last month, Tatkal tickets booked through IRCTC's official website and mobile app are available only to users authenticated with Aadhaar. Now, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made Aadhaar OTP verification mandatory for all users booking Tatkal train tickets. The move is aimed at preventing misuse of the ticketing system by agents, ensuring fair access for genuine passengers.

In this story, we've explained the step-by-step process to link your Aadhaar with your IRCTC account and how to book Tatkal tickets under the new verification rules.

How to Link Aadhaar with Your IRCTC Account

Step 1: First, log in to the IRCTC Website or download the app from Apple's App Store or Google Play Store.
Step 2: If you already have an account, log in using your mobile number or create a new account using your name, email, and other details.
Step 3: Now, go to the 'My Account' Section
Step 4: Click on the Authenticate User option and select Aadhaar Card.
Step 5: Now, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and click on the checkbox to consent for authentication.

Step 7: Once verified, you'll get a confirmation message. Your account is now Aadhaar-linked and eligible for booking Tatkal tickets.

How to Book Tatkal Tickets With New Rules (Step-by-step Guide)

Step 1: Visit the IRCTC's official website and open the mobile app
Step 2: Log in to your Aadhaar-verified IRCTC account.
Step 3: Choose your destination, date, and train.
Step 4: Enter passenger details including name, age, and gender.
Step 5: Provide your Aadhaar-linked mobile number, then enter the verification code and OTP received.
Step 6: Click on 'Continue,' choose your payment method, and proceed to pay.
Step 7: Once the payment is successful, your e-ticket will be sent to your registered email and mobile number.

It's worth noting that Tatkal tickets booked at computerised Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and through authorised agents will also require OTP authentication sent to the mobile number provided by the user at the time of booking.

Moreover, to prevent bulk bookings during the crucial initial minutes of Tatkal ticket availability, authorised railway agents will not be allowed to book Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window.

For AC classes, the booking restriction applies from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM, and for non-AC classes, from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM. These changes aim to enhance transparency in Tatkal bookings and ensure that the scheme's benefits are delivered to genuine passengers.
