How to update your Aadhaar details online
Aadhaar is becoming mandatory and errors and other mistakes in your details will lead to many problems. As it is mandatory to link Aadhaar to other services, all your details should match on both. If there is a mismatch in your name, date of birth or gender on these documents, then you will not be able to link the two.
According to UIDAI, if your Aadhaar has not be linked to your bank account or PAN card or if you have not used your Aadhaar for any transactions for three years, it will become inactive. Then, you need to update your Aadhaar.
There are three ways to correct or update your Aadhaar details. You can update your Aadhaar online from the UIDAI website by following the steps detailed here. You can update your Aadhaar details online if you have registered a mobile number as online transactions need OTP authentication. You can get your Aadhaar details updated for free of cost using the UIDAI website by following the below steps.
Step 1: Login to the Aadhaar card online self service update portal with your Aadhaar number.
Step 2: Choose the detail that you wish to change or correct from name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number, and email id.
Step 3: Scan and upload the self-attested proof of identity document for the detail you wish to be corrected or changed.
Step 4: Once the request for the change or correction in the name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number or email id is submitted, you will be given your Aadhaar card update request number that can be used to track the status of the change or correction.
The UIDAI website states that the turnaround time for the Aadhaar card updation is 90 days. Your request for update will be verified by UIDAI and once the request is approved, you will be able to download your e-Aadhaar by just clicking on the Download Aadhaar option on the website.
An Aadhaar letter with the updated details will be delivered to your address if you have updated your name, address, gender or date of birth. If you have updated your mobile number or email id, then you will get a notification on the given mobile number of email address.
