X (Twitter) Finally Lets You Edit DMs on iOS, But There's a Catch: Here’s How to Do It
X users, rejoice! The platform you know and love (or maybe tolerate) has finally joined the party when it comes to editing Direct Messages (DMs). After years of requests, editing functionality has arrived - but for now, it's only available on the iOS version of the app.
Editing Your Regrets Away (Sort Of)
This new feature allows you to fix typos, clarify your thoughts, or update information in messages you've already sent.

How to Edit Messages on X
To edit a direct message on X, follow these steps:
- Open Messages: Tap on the Messages tab located at the bottom right of the app.
- Select Chat: Navigate to the chat where you wish to edit a message.
- Long Press Message: Find the message you want to modify and long-press it.
- Choose Edit: From the popup menu, select "Edit message."
- Revise and Send: Make the necessary changes and tap "Send" to update the message.
- However, unlike Snapchat's edit feature, there's a clear sign that the message has been altered. An "Edited" label will appear below the message, letting recipients know it's not the original version.
Security and Limitations
For security reasons, X keeps track of the original message even after edits are made. There's also a limit to how many edits you can make - just like editing posts on X itself, you're limited to five revisions per message.
Android Users, Don't Despair
While iOS users can enjoy this newfound freedom, Android users will need to wait a bit longer. X has confirmed the feature will eventually arrive on other platforms, but no specific timeline has been announced.
Catching Up to the Competition
This edit function brings X in line with many other messaging apps that already offer similar features. Users who frequently send DMs will likely find this a welcome addition, especially for those moments when a typo or poorly worded message needs some quick correction.
