How to Password Protect Your Email on iPhone and iPad?
Apple has not given iPhone and iPad users with an option to set a pass code for accessing the mail app in these devices. This has been raising criticisms from users who are concerned about the security of their mails when the device is accessed by someone else.
The mails are out in the open and anyone can read them. This is especially of great concern in circumstances where one looses the possession of the device by misplacement or by theft. This leads us to the question, how to password protect the email on iPhone and iPad?
You can solve this security issue by using a 'send only account" for iPad and iPhone. You will need one account in the device for sharing photos and files using the iPhone or iPad. You will have to disable all other existing mail accounts on the device. Following steps are a must for password protecting your email.
Step 1: Create a free mail account which will be entirely used for sending messages from the device.
Step 2: Forward the mails received at the new account to the inbox in your device. This will ensure that you do not miss the replies for the messages sent by you from your iPhone or iPad.
Step 3: Disabling of all other mailing accounts on your device
Step 4: Use of Gmail app for iOS or a browser in your device for signing in to the password protected account
Please note: The new address will be used for messages you send from the iPhone or iPad. Therefore the only mails you receive at the new address will be replies to the mail sent from the device. You will also have to set the new account to delete incoming messages after they are forwarded to your regular account so that the mails are not displayed in the device"s unsecured program.
To set up forwarding, follow the steps given below after creating a new account. It is preferable to use Gmail as it is reliable and feature friendly.
Step 1: Sign in to the new account.
Step 2: Click on Settings icon at the top right corner of the window.
Step 3: Select Settings.
Step 4: Go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
Step 5: Click on 'Add a forwarding address".
Step 6: Provide the address.
Step 7: Click on Next.
Step 8: Click on Proceed.
Step 9: A confirmation message will be sent to the forwarding account. Copy the confirmation code and paste it on the text field which appears on the Forwarding section on the new account settings.
Step 10: Click on Verify.
Step 11: Forwarding option will be disabled by default. So you will have to click on 'Forward a copy of incoming mail to" and select the account to which the messages should be forwarded to.
Step 12: Click on 'Delete Gmail"s copy" from the second drop down menu.
