How to Use New Aadhaar App Launched in India: Offline Mode, Update Mobile Number, Add Family Profiles, More
India's UIDAI launched the new official Aadhaar app in late 2025, replacing the older mAadhaar app with enhanced security, multi-profile support, and direct service access.
This free app simplifies digital identity management, letting users handle updates, verification, and family profiles without visiting centers. Designed for Android and iOS, it prioritizes biometrics and offline use for broader accessibility.

Download and Initial Setup
Search for the official "Aadhaar" app by UIDAI on Google Play Store or Apple App Store and install it. Launch the app, choose your language, then enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number or scan the QR code from your card. Verify via facial recognition (align face in the circle and blink twice) or OTP to your registered mobile; finally, create a 4-digit passcode.
Updating Mobile Number
Updating your mobile number in the new app is quick and secure, bypassing Aadhaar Kendra visits entirely.
- Log in with your passcode or biometrics.
- Tap the "Services" tab on the dashboard.
- Select "Update Mobile Number," enter the new number, and confirm with OTP sent to the old number.
- Pay any nominal fee via UPI (if required) and submit; track status in the "Requests" section.
This in-app process avoids Aadhaar Kendra visits and completes in minutes.
Adding Family Profiles
Manage up to five family profiles easily from one device, a major upgrade from the single-profile old app.
- From the top profile icon, select "Add User."
- Enter the family member's 12-digit Aadhaar number (supports up to 5 profiles per registered mobile).
- Verify with OTP to their linked number or facial scan.
- Switch profiles anytime via the dropdown menu for seamless management.
Unlike the old app's single-profile limit, this feature centralizes family access securely.
Using Offline Mode
Offline mode enables QR-based verification without internet, perfect for remote areas or quick checks.
- Ensure your profile is active and generate an offline QR code from the "Verify" or "Share" section (select "Offline QR").
- Download the QR or masked Aadhaar (hides sensitive details like address).
- Share via Bluetooth, NFC, or display for merchants/banks; no internet needed for verification.
- Use "Biometric Lock" beforehand to secure data during transactions.
Offline QR works with compatible apps/devices for quick ID checks.
Additional Features
- Selective Sharing: Reveal only name/photo while hiding DOB or address.
- Activity Logs: Monitor app usage and lock biometrics instantly.
- Digital Locker: Store e-Aadhaar for travel or banking.
In summary, the new Aadhaar app streamlines identity services with user-friendly tools, reducing paperwork and enhancing privacy for millions. Download it today to experience these upgrades firsthand.
