How to change your IP address

If you have the Internet in your home, you must be having static or dynamic IP address depending upon the type of Internet service you subscribed from your ISP. However, most of us have a dynamic IP address, where you are allowed to change it as well.

Generally, we change IP address if we configure an invalid address, malfunctioning router providing bad addresses and re-configuring the home network. If you want to change your IP address, here are a few ways to change the IP address.

Turn off your router

Simply turning off your router and turning it back on will not likely change IP address, but if you are lucky you might get it. If it doesn't happen, try leaving the router turned off overnight and restart in the morning.

Reconnect your router

Most of the routers let you disconnect from ISP and can be reconnected through a point-and-click from the Administrative control.

Change IP address of your computer

Step 1: Shut down your computer for some time and turn it on after a while.
Step 2: You can manually release your IP address and obtain a new IP address with Windows ipconfig utility.
Step 3: Click Start -> Run, and type cmd
Step 4: On the Command Prompt screen, run "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew"
Step 5: Make sure you run it as System Administrator to execute ipconfig command.
Step 6: You also verify that you got a new IP address by either typing ipconfig command, or by visiting Find My IP page.

Change IP address of your phone

You can also change the IP address on an Apple iPhone with the following steps

Step 1: Open the Settings app and Wi-Fi option
Step 2: Tap the small (i) next to the network in question.
Step 3: Go to the Static tab of the IP ADDRESS area.
Step 4: Now enter the network details including your own IP address, DNS information, etc.
