You can buy petrol and diesel via online soon

The Indian government is pushing the digital drive with all its might. The government has been taking a lot of initiatives to go digital. The latest plan that is in progress might leave you surprised.

Well, the government is in plans to sell petrol and diesel along with its other products on an e-commerce platform. Though this idea will be a boon to many, the experts say that it requires a lot of high-safety measures those have to be adopted.

At the recently concluded India Mobile Congress, Dharmendra Pradhan, the Oil Minister revealed the plan of connecting oil with IT and telecommunications. According to the reports, this idea was first proposed by the minister at a consultative committee meeting of MPs in Srinagar on April 21.

Regarding this, Deepak Mahurkar, the leader of oil and gas at PricewaterhouseCoopers India told IANS that it is technically feasible to sell petrol and diesel on the e-commerce portals and get the same delivered to the doorsteps of the buyers. But there are challenging safety measures that have to be followed when dealing with fuel. The fuel that is sold should be sealed properly and should be handled delicately. This channel can handle the emergency fuel needs. Especially, this proposal might become a hit in the rural areas where people need to travel several miles to access fuel pumps.

Even the former ONGC Chairman and MD R.S. Sharma said that the idea of selling fuel online can be worked out but the safety standards have to be maintained. Provide that the safety concerns are met, this can become a commercially scaleable model. He is the Chairman of Ficci Hydrocarbon Committee that suggested that safety measures should be adopted by the delivery personnel while they pour petrol into the vehicles.

The industry experts have come up with their concerns regarding the price of petrol that will be sold online. In addition to the existing fuel price, the buyers will be charged a service fee as well to get it delivered to their doorsteps.
