Use ChatGPT On Any Website And Webpage: Google Chrome Extensions For Generative AI Chatbot
Generative AI is gaining rapid popularity as users flock to it for detailed answers, intelligent conversations, completing tasks, and much more. Perhaps the most challenging aspect is having to input prompts in a separate browser window manually. Now Google Chrome extensions have come up to help in this cumbersome task.
Multiple Chrome extensions allow ChatGPT users to run the Generative AI chatbot in any tab. These extensions can automatically pick up probable cues and quickly provide contextual responses based on the web page's contents. Let's look at Merlin, one of the most popular Google Chrome extensions for ChatGPT.

How To Install Merlin And Get It Running In Google Chrome
Merlin is essentially a Google Chrome extension. However, underneath, it is a GPT-powered chatbot that operates as a Chrome extension.
The popular extension can quickly generate summaries of search results, transcribe YouTube videos, draft write-ups, and even generate responses using the GPT-4 model. It is important to note that ChatGPT-4 is currently only available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and Bing AI chatbot users.
Installing the Merlin extension is quite simple. Simply start Google Chrome and head over to the extension's dedicated page on the Chrome Web Store. Click "Add To Chrome".
A dialogue box warns "Merlin can read your data on all websites". However, Merlin's Privacy Policy states that it does not collect personal information such as users' IP addresses, contents on all web pages, and information about their devices. It may, however, collect information about the prompts and any text users select on a website for the chatbot to provide relevant information.
If these conditions are acceptable, click "Add extension" on the pop-up to resume the installation process. Users will need to sign up with a Google account or their email to start using ChatGPT via Merlin. Once that's done, Merlin can start working in the Google Chrome web browser.
How To Use ChatGPT Extension In Google Chrome
Merlin works with nearly all websites and web pages except Google Docs. Support for Docs is still in the works.
Users can bring up the extension by pressing Alt + M on a Windows computer or Command + M on a Mac. Users can change this shortcut by heading to chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
Users can also select a portion of the text on any web page, right-click, and select "Give Merlin context". Additionally, a tiny icon at the bottom shows up right corner whenever a user selects some text. Tapping on the same brings up Merlin's chat box.
Incidentally, users can choose whether the responses are generated using GPT-3 or GPT-4. However, the extension limits users to 51 free queries per day. Moreover, the extension works on a credit system.
Each query using GPT-4 consumes 10 credits at once. The developer offers a paid version, starting at $19 for 1,000 monthly queries, with plans up to $119 for 12,000 monthly queries.
Besides Merlin, there are several more extensions, and that too, for multiple platforms and functions. There's ChatGPT - ChatonAI, which suggests additional context while searching on search engines other than Google. TweetGPT crafts quirky tweets while sticking to the character limit. There's AIPRM for ChatGPT, resources for SEO, SaaS, Marketing, DevOps, and more.
