Apple Adds iPads, Macs, and iPhone 8 to its Vintage List Ahead of iPhone 17 Launch
Apple has recently updated its vintage list, adding seven older products just before the iPhone 17 series launch. This update includes the iPhone 8 (128GB) and the 2013 Mac Pro, among other devices from 2018 and 2019. These additions signal Apple's intention to phase out support for these models gradually.
Apple's Vintage List Explained
The vintage list comprises products discontinued over five years ago. While these devices can still be used, Apple does not guarantee hardware support or spare parts availability. The iPhone 8, released in 2017, is now on this list. It was one of the last models with a physical home button, valued by users for its design and performance.

The 2013 Mac Pro is another notable addition to the vintage list. Known for its cylindrical shape, it was initially praised for compactness and thermal design but criticized for limited upgradeability. In 2019, Apple replaced it with a more traditional tower-style Mac Pro. Now, over five years after discontinuation, it joins the vintage category.
Other Devices Added to the List
Additional devices now considered vintage include the 2019 13-inch MacBook Air, 2019 iMac, and two iPad Pro models from 2018: the 11-inch and third-generation 12.9-inch versions. Although still functional for many tasks, these devices may soon face repair and software compatibility challenges.
Apple's support policy involves regular updates to its vintage and obsolete lists. Obsolete products are those discontinued for over seven years and no longer receive official hardware support. This distinction helps users understand which devices might soon require replacement or upgrades.
With the anticipated release of the iPhone 17 series in a few months, Apple is clearly differentiating between newer models and those being retired. Long-time users of devices like the iPhone 8 or the 2013 Mac Pro should consider upgrading as support phases out.
This strategic move by Apple underscores its commitment to advancing technology while managing resources efficiently. Users are encouraged to stay informed about their device's status to plan future purchases accordingly.
