Australia To Scan Online Porn Viewers Face For Age Verification

Governments of all countries are trying to make it harder for people to get access to online porn videos. On October 29, the Department of Home Affairs Australia announced that it will start scanning porn viewers face and match it with the identity data available in the government database to verify their age.

According to a report, the Australian government will use the Face Verification Service to implement this verification process.

"Home Affairs is developing a Face Verification Service which matches a person's photo against images used on one of their evidence of identity documents to help verify their identity," the government agency wrote in a submission. "This could assist in age verification, for example by preventing a minor from using their parent's driver licence to circumvent age verification controls."

Currently, the face-matching service is under development and it's not fully operational so far. The government will not be able to implement this service until the Parliament passes the Identity-matching Services Bill 2019. It seems it might take a little bit more time because recently this bill was rejected by the security committee.

Recently India has also banned porn websites and instructed all network and broadband service providers to ban the access. However, people have found many ways to crack the ban and still get access to whatever they want.

There are many proxies which will help users to by-pass the ban or any other verification process to get access to adult content. The question also arises that how effective are these facial age verification checks are going to impact the users. There are many reports which confirmed that by-passing the age verification checks are very easy. Let's see when the Australia government is going to implement this tool.
