Combating Cybercrime in India: Centre Launches System to Block International Scam Calls
India's Minister of Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, has introduced a new system called the 'International Incoming Spoofed Calls Prevention System'. This initiative is designed to safeguard citizens from fraudulent international calls that appear to originate from Indian numbers.
The Department of Communications (DoT), in partnership with Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), developed this system. It can detect and block calls that seem to come from Indian numbers but actually originate from abroad. Scammers often use such tactics to impersonate officials or create panic among recipients.

Blocking Fraudulent Calls
The primary goal of this system is to drastically reduce these scams. Initial results are promising, with about 1.35 crore calls, or 90% of such spoofed calls, being blocked within the first 24 hours of operation. These were identified as spoofed calls and prevented from reaching Indian telecom users.
Despite these efforts, the DoT acknowledges that fraudsters might still find alternative methods to deceive people. If you receive a suspicious call, even if it appears to be from an Indian number, you can report it using the Chakshu facility on Sanchar Saathi.
The DoT remains dedicated to combating cybercrime and ensuring the safety of citizens. They encourage vigilance and reporting of any suspicious activities related to phone calls. This proactive approach by the government aims to protect individuals from falling victim to scams and enhance overall cybersecurity measures in India.
