The Finance Ministry in India has instructed its staff to refrain from using AI applications such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek on office devices. This directive, issued by the Department of Expenditure on January 29, underscores concern regarding the confidentiality of government data. The ministry emphasized that AI tools could compromise sensitive information and urged all employees to adhere strictly to this guideline.

Globally, DeepSeek AI has Faced Various Restrictions:

• Italy: Italy was the first nation to impose a ban on DeepSeek AI last month. The Italian Data Protection Authority (DPA) demanded information from the startup regarding user data handling after a complaint by Euroconsumers. Despite being given 20 days to respond, the ban was enforced shortly thereafter, removing the app from Italian stores.
• Taiwan: In Taiwan, while private citizens can still access DeepSeek, public sector organizations face strict regulations. The ban covers public schools, state-owned enterprises, and critical infrastructure. Taiwan's digital affairs ministry cited concerns over cross-border data transmission risks and potential information leaks due to ongoing sovereignty disputes with China.
• Australia: Australia has also restricted its government employees from using DeepSeek AI. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke announced this measure following a national intelligence assessment that identified unacceptable security risks associated with the platform.
