Google Flights Launches ‘Price Guarantee’, Will Refund Difference if Prices Drop Further

In a new pilot program, search engine Google aims to make flight tickets cheaper for you. As per the new feature, if you book flights through Google Flights, it offers you a 'Price Guarantee.'

This entails that if for any reason, the price of your flight goes down below the price you booked it at, Google will repay you the difference in prices. It basically means, if a customer finds a cheaper flight after booking through its platform, it will refund the difference, making sure the customer pays the cheapest possible amount for their ticket.

Google Flights to Refund Difference in Price, if You Find Cheaper Flight

In a blog post explaining this new launch, Google explained this pilot program is available for select 'Book on Google' itineraries. Explaining the feature, Google said, "After you book on Google, we'll monitor the price until the first flight in your itinerary departs. If the price drops, we'll make up the difference."

The feature hopes to convince customers that they aren't missing out on a better deal elsewhere.

According to the blog post, for a customer to receive a refund, the difference in price has to be greater than 5 USD. Additionally, each customer can get up to 500 USD back total per calendar year for up to 3 open Price guaranteed bookings.

The search engine is confident that its algorithm can find the cheapest possible tickets before flights take off. Google also rolled out three different features aimed at making it easier to browse hotels, book flight tickets, and plan vacations. However, this new feature is presently only available for flights departing from the US.

Google Flights' Price Guarantee: Details and Conditions

The customer's country/region must be set to the US and your currency must be in USD to see guaranteed flights. On top of this, they must use a US billing address and US phone number, and be logged in from their Google account.

The Price Guarantee is marked by a logo, for flights for which the platform is sure prices won't drop further. The service doesn't require any additional costs. For refunds, customers must download the Google Pay app and have it installed within 90 days of the departure of the first flight.

If one changes or cancels their trip, this guarantee will not be available.
