YouTube Is Reportedly Skipping Videos to the End for Ad-Blocker Users
Frustration is mounting for YouTube viewers who use ad blockers. According to reports and user complaints, YouTube has implemented a new tactic to discourage ad blocking - automatically skipping videos to the end for users with ad blockers detected.
This comes on the heels of a year-long effort by YouTube to combat third-party ad blockers that violate its terms of service. Previously, measures included slowing down load times and issuing warnings about potential buffering issues.

Skipping to the End: A New Inconvenience for Ad Blocker Users
Reddit user SDHD4K reported experiencing videos immediately jumping to the end upon playback with an ad blocker enabled. Similar issues were reported by other users, including videos playing without sound or audio only returning momentarily when adjusting the volume controls. Disabling the ad blocker reportedly resolved these issues, suggesting a deliberate attempt by YouTube to limit ad blocker functionality.
As of writing this, uBlock Origin has already fixed the issue.
The Ad Blocker vs. YouTube Premium Battle
YouTube contends that ad blockers violate its terms of service and hinder creators' revenue generation. The platform emphasizes its commitment to protecting creators and its ecosystem through its YouTube Premium subscription service, which boasts over 100 million users. This revenue, generated through ads and subscriptions, allows YouTube to offer free content to billions of viewers globally.
Ad Blocker Bug or Intentional Measure?
While some users believe this new behavior is an intentional step by YouTube to limit ad blocking, others suspect it might be a bug within specific ad blocker apps. Regardless of the cause, it's clear that YouTube is determined to discourage ad blocking practices.
The Future of Ad Blocking on YouTube
With this latest measure, YouTube's fight against ad blockers appears to be intensifying. It remains to be seen if ad blocker developers will find workarounds or if users will be forced to choose between ad-supported free content or subscribing to YouTube Premium.
