Why Has Apple Increased Prices?
The price revision comes amid an industry-wide shortage of memory and storage components. The explosive growth of AI infrastructure and data centres has significantly increased demand for DRAM and NAND flash memory, resulting in sharp component price increases over the past several months.
The impact is not limited to Apple. Several smartphone and PC manufacturers have already revised prices multiple times this year, and analysts expect the trend to continue as supply struggles to keep pace with AI-driven demand.
"The consumer electronics industry is facing an unprecedented challenge. The rapid expansion of AI data centres has created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage. We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly," Apple said in a statement to TOI.
Should You Buy Now?
If you're planning to purchase a laptop, tablet, or other consumer electronics device in the coming months, waiting may not necessarily result in better pricing. With component costs continuing to climb, industry experts believe more price revisions could be on the horizon.
As the saying goes, the best time to buy was yesterday. The second-best time may well be today.
