Apple’s M4 MacBook Air Could Launch This Week—Here’s What to Expect
Apple is preparing to introduce the M4 MacBook Air, with reports suggesting a launch could happen as early as this week. This update would complete the MacBook lineup’s transition to Apple’s latest silicon, leaving only the Mac Studio and Mac Pro yet to adopt the M4 chip.

Signs Point to an Imminent Release
Apple’s M3 MacBook Air inventory is running low, a pattern seen before previous model updates. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is already adjusting its marketing and retail strategies, signaling that the new MacBook Air could be announced soon.
Last year, Apple reduced the M2 MacBook Air’s price after the M3 version launched. It remains to be seen whether the company will continue selling the M2 model at a discount alongside the M4.
What’s Changing with the M4 MacBook Air?
Apple is expected to focus on performance upgrades rather than design changes. The M3 MacBook Air already delivered a 60% performance boost over the M1, featuring an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and 8GB of RAM in the base 13-inch model, while the 15-inch variant included a 10-core GPU.
The M4 MacBook Air will likely follow the M4 MacBook Pro’s base specs, potentially featuring a 10-core CPU and GPU. However, as an Air model, it’s unlikely to have a cooling fan, meaning performance tuning may differ from the Pro lineup.
One key improvement could be support for two external displays when the lid is open, aligning with the M4 MacBook Pro’s capabilities. Port selection is expected to remain minimal, consistent with previous MacBook Air models.
Pricing and Availability
Apple is likely to keep pricing in line with previous MacBook Air models, though adjustments could depend on whether the M2 version remains available at a lower price. With Apple’s inventory changes and sales strategy shifts, an official announcement could be imminent.
