Apple MacBook Air 13 and 15 May Launch in H1 2023 with M3 Chip
Apple's launch season is fast approaching. After rumors of an early-January event, a new report claims Apple is all set to announce the MacBook Air 13 and MacBook Air 15, alongside new iMacs and a redesigned Mac Pro, all powered by a new Apple M3 chip.
Apple MacBooks and iMacs Launch Timelines
As per a report by reputed Apple journalist Mark Gurman, the first to arrive will be the new MacBook Air 13 and 15 with next-generation Apple Silicon sometime this spring or summer. Both versions will reportedly run on the Apple M3 chip.
It is safe to say that, like its previous generations, the Apple M3 chip will bring upgraded performance, probably at higher power efficiency, increasing its lead over Intel and AMD even further.
The Apple M3 chip will also likely power the upcoming Apple iMac and the iPad Pro, which may switch to an OLED display this year. The iPad, however, may launch later this year.
The upcoming Mac Pro, however, is set to get big upgrades. The Apple M2 Ultra is likely to power the workstation. With 24 CPU cores, 76 GPU cores, and up to 192GB of unified memory, the Mac Pro will be Apple's most powerful PC to date.
Furthermore, the 24-inch iMacs will also get a refresh. Gurman has predicted that the iMac will receive major changes to its internals, likely the Apple Silicon chipset, and launch later this year in the second half.
Apple M3 Chips: What's in Store?
To recall, Apple introduced its PC chips in 2020 with the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, which run on the ARM instruction set. This new chipset was a far cry from the x86-based architecture Apple relied on previously, thanks to its partnership with Intel.
The company later scaled the chips up to the M1 Pro and the M1 Max, with added CPU and GPU cores and higher unified memory for extra performance.
The Cupertino giant will likely follow the same upscaling path with the Apple M3 Pro and the M3 Max, expected to release sometime in 2024. The chipsets are likely to be manufactured on the 3nm process node at TSMC.
