Five years ago, Warren Buffet along with Bill Gates launched a new philanthopic activity namely, " Giving Pledge" in order to convince the wealthiest individuals to donate half of their fortune to charity.
Till now, lots of American billionaires including 130 couples and individuals from 14 countries have signed on.
Recently, the Facebook founder, CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan celebrated the birth of a baby girl named "Sam".
Also, the Facebook CEO made a major announcement saying that he and his wife Chan will give away 99% of their Facebook shares to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation.
Today, we have jotted down the list of 10 who stood out and pledged their wealth to charity:
Bill Gates
In 2000, Gates and his wife combined three family foundations to create the charitable "Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It has assets reportedly valued at more than $34.6 billion (approx Rs. 23,12,99,09,70,000).
Steve Case
Founded in 1997 by AOL co-founder Steve Case and his wife Jean Case, the Case Foundation invests in individuals, nonprofits, and social enterprises aiming to connect people, increase giving, and catalyze civic action.
Marc Benioff
Marc launched a San Francisco-based non-profit programmes called SF Gives. It has raised $10 million from tech companies in just 60 days. Marc along with his wife Lynne have also personally given a total amount of $200 million (approx Rs. 13,36,98,90,000) to the children's hospital at UCSF.
Irwin Jacobs
Jacobs along with his wife, has given away some $500 million (approx Rs. 33,42,725,000) to charity including the Cornell Tech Roosevelt Island campus, MIT fellowships, and the San Diego Symphony.
Pierre Omidyar
Omidyar and his wife Pam gave away more than $1 billion (approx Rs.46,180.000,305.18) and also signed the "Giving Pledge" in 2010.
Gordon Moore
Moore has given away more than $1 billion (approx Rs.46,180.000,305.18) to charitable causes, donating half of his wealth to create the Moore Foundation in 2001.
Elon Musk
Musk has already donated much of his $12.9 billion fortune to renewable energy, science and engineering education, and paediatric health.
Larry Page
Page indeed has unique idea about his donation. Instead of giving it to his children, he is planning to give it to entreprenuers like Elon Musk, who are all coming up with useful ideas to change the world.
Sara Blakely
