NearGroup is a New Social Networking App by IITian for residents

NearGroup is a brand new app that lets you to connect with your colony residents without providing your mobile number. This social app is available in both Android and iOS platforms, however, right now its functional only for Delhi NCR residents.

This app was designed by an IIT-Madras graduate named Prashant Pitti in an attempt to unite the likeminded people nearby. You can identify nearby people's interest in various activities like fitness, sports, work, social work and many more via app.
How it works?

To sign up in this app, the user should have at least three month old Facebook account with minimum of 50 friends in their profile. In this way, the app verifies the user and allows them to use NearGroup app.

As per the founder Prashant, the app has over 20,000 verified users and it has connected around 500 localities in Delhi, 300 in Gurgaon, 270 in Ghaziabad and 250 in Noida.

In an interview, founder and CEO of Near Group app, Prashant Pitti reportedly said, "Like-minded people can do a lot if they get together. We hardly come across such people despite living in the same locality. How do we find someone with similar taste in such a situation?"

He added, "To be part of a neighborhood community, users need to download the app and register themselves by selecting their location. User interest could be, for example, carpool, parenting, sports, yoga, running, gym, dance, painting, cooking, exam preparations, travelling, start-ups, work profile, and many others. Depending upon their selection, each user will become part of the groups. Users can communicate, discuss and meet the other members of the group,"

He further added, "There is also a real time group chat facility and we will introduce a panic button. This can alert members of the group in case of any emergency immediately so that help can reach the individual."

This NearGroup app comes handy in a busy lifestyle, where we don't get time to meet our neighbohours. Anyhow, we would like to see this app in more places, which helps the community to be safer by staying connected.

However, this app seems to be just two months old, Prashant and his team has a long road ahead.
