As expected, Apple has introduced the cheapest iPhone - the iPhone SE at an event happened at its headquarters in Cupertino. The new iPhone SE is the cheapest iPhone ever built by the company and is a simply a 4-inch variant of its bigger sibling - the iPhone 6s.
Apple states the iPhone SE is "the most powerful phone with a four-inch display." The handset comes with a compact aluminum design that has been updated with matte-chamfered edges and offers exceptional performance with the same 64-bit A9 chip offered in iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
"iPhone SE is an exciting new idea - we started with a beloved, iconic design and reinvented it from the inside out. The result is the most beautiful and powerful phone with a four-inch display in the world," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "iPhone SE is packed with a stunning four-inch Retina display, advanced 64-bit A9 chip with M9 motion co-processor, longer battery life, 12-megapixel iSight camera with True Tone flash, Live Photos, 4K video, faster LTE and Wi-Fi, and Touch ID with Apple Pay. Everyone who wants a smaller phone is going to love iPhone SE."
Apple has however kept the design of the iPhone SE similar to the two generation old iPhone 5S. Well, it would be safe to assume that Apple is touting the all new smartphone as an 'enhanced' version of the existing iPhone 5S. Let's take a look at the top features of the new iPhone SE.
The Apple iPhone SE comes in a beloved compact aluminum design - crafted from bead-blasted aluminum for a satin-like finish that has been updated with matte-chamfered edges, a color-matched stainless steel Apple logo, and four gorgeous metallic finishes, including rose gold.
As rumored, the iPhone SE sports a 4-inch display up front with Retina panel at a resolution of 640x1136 pixels. However, the 3D Touch features of the Apple iPhone 6S goes missing in the all new device.
The Apple iPhone SE offers exceptional performance with the same 64-bit A9 chip offered in iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus for blazing fast speeds.
With an easy-to-use interface at its core, iOS 9 is the foundation of iPhone SE and brings powerful built-in apps like Messages, FaceTime, Photos, Music, and Maps.
The iPhone SE has an advanced 12-megapixel iSight camera featuring Focus Pixel technology for fast focusing, an Apple-designed image signal processor, advanced noise reduction, third-generation local tone mapping and better face detection.
The iPhone SE is available in two storage options: 16GB and 64GB, and as usual, there is no micro-SD card slot to expand memory.
Apple has not mentioned the battery capacity of the iPhone SE but states that the combination of a 64-bit A9 chip with M9 motion co-processor will give a longer battery life.
iPhone SE will be available in space gray, silver, gold and rose gold metallic finishes
Coming to the pricing, the Apple iPhone SE is the cheapest 'new' iPhone available at just $399 (Rs 25,950 approx.) for the 16GB variant. Users can, however, opt for a variant with a 64GB internal storage for a $100 for at $499 (Rs 32,435 approx.)
The iPhone SE will be available in early April in India including globally. The local price of iPhone SE is not yet revealed. However, it is expected somewhere around Rs. 30,000.
