OnePlus 12R vs Oppo Reno 11 Pro: Which is the Best Smartphone Under Rs 40,000 in India?

The OnePlus 12R recently made its debut in India sub-40K market alongside its flagship counterpart, the OnePlus 12 5G. However, it isn't the only sub-40K smartphone that arrived in India this year.

While the OnePlus 12R didn't get a price bump as compared to last year's OnePlus 11R, so didn't the recently released Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G. So let's find out which of these smartphones are the best option in 2024.

Design & Build

In terms of its design, the Oppo Reno 11 Pro and OnePlus 12R feature the traditional curved screen formula. However, that's where the similarities end as the OnePlus 12R features a tougher build, using glass on the front and back as well as an aluminum frame.

On the other hand, the Oppo Reno 11 Pro opts for a plastic frame and uses a mixture of polycarbonate and glass to achieve the marble-like finish on the back. This also makes the Oppo Reno 11 Pro lighter than the OnePlus 12R. While we'd prefer the design of the Reno 11 Pro, it is the OnePlus 12R which has the tougher build. It also offers better resistance to dust and water than the Reno 11 Pro 5G.

Display

This is where the OnePlus 12R smokes the Reno 11 Pro 5G. The OnePlus 12R features the best display we've experienced on a smartphone under Rs 40,000 in India. The panel uses LTPO 4.0 technology whereas the Reno 11 Pro opts for a standard AMOLED display.

The display on the OnePlus 12R 5G also gets brighter and has a higher resolution than the Reno 11 Pro. OnePlus also offers Dolby Vision support and uses tougher Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection up front. While the Oppo Reno 11 Pro features a good display, OnePlus ups the ante with a flagship-grade screen.

Performance & Software

Another area where OnePlus takes the easy win is in the performance department. While the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 is a very reliable mid-range chipset, it isn't quite a match for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which powered the flagships of 2023.

Moreover, the OnePlus 12R also features faster LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage (only on the 256GB model). Additionally, the OnePlus 12R also has an advanced cooling system. In terms of software, both phones run Android 14 out of the box. While ColorOS serves as the template for both operating systems, Oxygen OS on the 12R 5G feels cleaner and lighter.

Cameras

This is the one area where Oppo does take the win thanks to the Reno 11 Pro's versatile camera setup. Oppo takes the no-nonsense approach, opting for the more premium main, telephoto, and ultrawide route as opposed to the OnePlus 12R, which only features a resilient primary sensor.

In terms of the main and ultrawide lenses, the Reno 11 Pro is an equal match to the OnePlus 12R. But it's Oppo's 32 MP portrait shooter which makes all the difference here. Moreover, the Reno 11 Pro also features a better 32 MP selfie camera. We are yet to test the Oppo Reno 11 Pro, but on paper, it emerges as the clear winner here.

Battery & Charging

The OnePlus 12R also boasts an advantage in the battery department with a substantially larger cell than the Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G. Moreover, the OnePlus 12R also offers faster charging support. On the other hand, both devices offer four-year fluid battery performance.

OnePlus 12R vs Oppo Reno 11 Pro: Conclusion

If you are looking for a good-looking mid-range smartphone with a premium design and a versatile camera system, then the Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G should be your default pick. However, if cameras are not all that important to you, then we'd suggest going the OnePlus route.

The OnePlus 12R features battery life, a display, and a chipset akin to a flagship at the price of a premium mid-ranger. And let's not forget the cleaner software and tougher build. To sum it up, the Reno 11 Pro 5G is a beautiful phone with a strong set of cameras, while the OnePlus 12R is a tough handset with high-end specs.
