Google Pixel Feature Drop for December: Gemini Call Screen Replies, Simple View, Camera Improvements, More
Google has initiated the rollout of the December Pixel Drop 2024 update, introducing a variety of new features to enhance Pixel devices. This update brings improvements to Gemini, new capabilities for Pixel Screenshots, camera enhancements, and essential security updates.
Gemini now offers a "saved info" feature, allowing users to receive tailored responses. By storing preferences like dietary choices, Gemini can provide suggestions that match individual interests. Users have the flexibility to view, edit, or delete any saved information whenever they wish.

Enhanced Gemini Features
The functionality of Gemini is now extended across more applications. Users can instruct Gemini to make calls, send messages, set alarms, adjust device settings, and even take selfies. Additionally, the update integrates with more services such as Spotify for music and smart home devices linked to Google Accounts. Gemini also supports additional languages.
On Pixel devices, Gemini Nano now provides smart responses during call screening. Users can respond to unknown calls with pre-set messages, aiding in managing situations like package deliveries efficiently. The update also enables users to view live transcripts of conversations during call screening, simplifying the decision-making process on whether to answer a call.
Camera and Sharing Enhancements
Users can now share Ultra HDR photos directly on Instagram, capturing vibrant images with enhanced detail. Sharing photos and videos on Snapchat is also streamlined as users can access all media folders directly from the Photo Picker.
The Dual Screen in Portrait Mode now offers improved photo previews for Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold users. The "Made You Look" feature is introduced for the first-generation Pixel Fold, adding engaging animations. Additionally, Pixel 9 Pro Fold users will enjoy "Joy" from Disney's Inside Out for added entertainment.
Improved Audio-Visual Tools
Android users can benefit from expressive captions that utilise AI to convey the emotion and intensity of speech across various content types like videos and livestreams. The Recorder app now includes a "Clear Voice" feature that reduces background noise during recordings, ensuring clarity in the speaker's voice.
The Simple View feature enhances accessibility by increasing font size and touch sensitivity for easier navigation. This is particularly beneficial for users with visual impairments or those preferring a simpler layout.
Security and Health Features
The Identity Check feature adds an extra layer of security by requiring facial or fingerprint authentication before making changes to sensitive settings on phones. The free Google VPN service is now available on Pixel Tablets for secure data protection on public Wi-Fi networks.
Pixel Watch 2 users can view live video from their Nest Cam or Doorbell. The "Loss of Pulse" emergency feature has been expanded to Germany and Portugal along with other health tools for Pixel Watch users. Starting December 9th, new metrics like Cardio Load will be available on Pixel Watches and Fitbit devices to help manage exercise and recovery effectively.
The December Pixel Drop update is being gradually rolled out to supported devices over several weeks based on carrier and device type.
