Lenovo's sub-brand, ZUK is secretly working on a smartphone dubbed as the ZUK Edge (Z2151). It was recently spotted paying a visit to TENNA, a telecommunication equipment certification center giving us insights to some major specifications of the device.
Lately, after acquiring Motorola and ZUK, Lenovo appears to have been planning to serve the Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 category very cleverly. It has reserved the sub-Rs. 15,000 category for Moto labelled smartphone while reserving the Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 segment for the ZUK labelled devices.
There's no word on which price segment the ZUK's next offering, possibly called the ZUK Edge will be placed at yet but, here are the 5 features you should expect from the smartphone.
Dual edge design
As the name itself suggests, the ZUK Edge is rumoured to feature a dual-edge design. For the uninitiated, it's the same design seen on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or the recently launched Xiaomi Mi Note 2. However, the images released by TENNA doesn't reveal any dual-edge design.
According to the TENNA listing, the smartphone will feature a 5.5-inch Full HD LCD display.
Glass and metal body
In addition to the curved display design, the smartphone is rumoured to feature glass on both the sides of the smartphone (front and back) with the metal frame holding the glass intact.
High-end internals with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box
Going by the TENNA listing, the ZUK Edge appears to be the most powerful smartphone in the ZUK lineup yet. It features top-of-the-line internals which includes the 2.35GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of internal storage space.
Reportedly, it will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box with a layer of the ZUI atop.
Although there's no word on this, given the company's history, the ZUK Edge should feature the cool U-Touch gestures.
Pricing and Availability
There are no rumours about the pricing of the device as yet but given the fact that the Lenovo's Moto Z Play is priced at Rs. 24,999 and the Lenovo Z2 Plus (high-end variant) priced at Rs. 19,999 the ZUK edge should be priced somewhere in between them.
As far as availability is concerned, the device is rumoured to be first showcased in China by the end of this year followed by the global launch in early 2017.
