Lenovo ZUK Z2 Coming on May 31: Here's What We Know So Far
As we were just about to get used to the idea of ZUK, a Lenovo sub-brand, launching their first smartphone in India, the ZUK Z1, here comes news of the launch of the phone's successor - ZUK Z2.
ZTE Axon 7: A Worthy Competitor to the Mighty Xiaomi Mi 5 is Here!
Preparing for a possible media launch on May 31st in China, ZUK is planning to announce the Z2, which is a 'Mini' or 'Lite' version for the recently launched Z2 Pro. TENAA leaks are already abuzz on the Internet and most features and specifications are out in the open. Here are all the key features of the ZUK Z2, a flagship smartphone that will be launched on May 31st.
Snapdragon 820 chipset
Debuting with the Le Max Pro recently, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 is the processor that will be most likely be powering the new ZUK Z2.
A quad-core 64-bit chipset, the Snapdragon 820 is succeeding the infamous flagship Snapdragon 810 processor of 2015. We are also hearing some reports of an Exynos processor powering an alternative version of the device.
A fast-charging battery
The ZUK Z2 has a big 3,500 mAh battery built under the hood, which packs in some serious fast charging potential. Equipped with the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology, the ZUK Z2 has the ability to charge up really quick, giving the users 3 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes of charging.
A sleek 5-inch display
According to the TENAA leaks and certification images, the ZUK Z2 has a 5-inch Full HD (1080p) display. This is the smallest screen for a phone that has the latest Snapdragon 820 chipset. So, if you are in the market for a sleek smartphone that has powerful internals, the ZUK Z2 is one smartphone you should be serious about, once it reaches the shelves in June.
Android Marshmallow
It's been almost 9 months since the launch of Android Marshmallow 6.0 and, obvious enough, the ZUK Z2 will be the first smartphone from the company to launch with the latest Android update.
It will have the custom ZUI 2.0 running on top of Android. ZUI is a highly customized skin and borrows a lot of design elements from iOS.
Improved connectivity options
The ZUK Z2 is expected to pack in in a lot of options for connectivity, improving the overall flexibility of the smartphone. The ZUK Z2 will have Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, 4G LTE, and the usual Wi-Fi and GPS as connectivity options.
With the new VoLTE support, ZUK Z2 is expected to have connectivity speeds upto 600 MBps. It also supports Band 40 for 4G LTE, one that is used by some operators in India.
Different storage variants
The ZUK Z2 offers two variants, according to memory and storage differentiation. The lower-end option has 3GB of RAM along with 32GB of internal storage and the premium variant has 4GB of RAM accompanied with 64GB of internal storage. We don't yet have confirmation on the availability of a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
Pricing and Availabilty
As talked about earlier in the story, the ZUK Z2 is all set to make a public appearance on May 31st, at a media event in China. We are expecting a price point of close to CNY 1799 or Rs. 18,000 (approx.) for the base variant and CNY 1999 or Rs. 20,000 (approx..) for the top-end model. The smartphone will be available in a couple of weeks after launch.
