Design, Display, and Build Quality

All three phones feature a similar back panel design and curved displays. In the case of the Edge 50 Pro and Edge 50 Fusion, users can choose from a vegan leather or plastic back panel, although the vanilla Edge 50 uses vegan or PU leather.

While the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion opts for a plastic frame, the other two models are equipped with aluminum frames. Additionally, all three smartphones use Gorilla Glass 5 protection for the screen. The Edge 50 trio also feature an IP68 rating for resistance to dust and water. Finally, the vanilla Edge 50 is the toughest of the bunch with MIL-STD-810H Military-grade certification.

Both the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion and Edge 50 Pro sport a 144Hz pOLED display, while the Edge 50 is limited to 120Hz. However, the Edge 50 Fusion maxes out at Full HD+ resolution as opposed to 1.5K on the Edge 50 and Edge 50 Pro. Moreover, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro's screen also achieves the highest peak brightness of the trio and is the only one to have a True Color Pantone Validation.

Performance, Battery, Software

In terms of raw performance, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro has a clear advantage. And while one might assume the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC on the Edge 50 Fusion is faster than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 AE chip on the Edge 50, this isn't the case.

Both chips are evenly matched in terms of performance, although the SD 7s Gen 2 does offer better CPU performance as opposed to better GPU performance on the SD 7 Gen 1 AE. Additionally, the Motorola Edge 50 is also tailored to offer better AI performance. However, both phones play second fiddle to the Motorola Edge 50 Pro.

The Motorola Edge 50 and Edge 50 Fusion have larger cells than the Edge 50 Pro, suggesting the 'Pro' model might fall short in terms of battery life. And while all three phones support 68W wired fast charging, the Edge 50 Pro's top-end variant goes up to 125W charging support.

Additionally, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro offers the fastest wireless charging of the lot, while the Edge 50 Fusion loses out on wireless charging entirely. The Edge 50 Pro also supports reverse wireless charging. All three phones run on Android 14 out of the box with Hello UI on top. The only difference in terms of software is that the vanilla Edge 50 offers a year less of software and security updates.

Cameras

For optics, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro features the largest sensor of the three, opting for a 50MP OmniVision OV50E primary camera with OIS and Laser AF. On the flip side, both the Motorola Edge 50 and Edge 50 Fusion use a 50MP Sony LYT-700C primary sensor with OIS. All three phones feature the same 13MP ultrawide lens with a 120° FOV and Macro Vision.

However, the Motorola Edge 50 and Edge 50 Pro have a third 10MP telephoto shooter with OIS support and 3x optical zoom. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro also opts for an updated 50MP selfie camera with autofocus (AF). Once again, the Edge 50 and Edge 50 Fusion use the same 32MP selfie camera, although the former comes with AF.

All three phones support 4K video recording on the front and rear cameras, although the Motorola Edge 50 Pro also offers 4K HDR10+ video recording. Another advantage for the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is the incorporation of the upgraded image signal processor (ISP). Lastly, the Edge 50 Pro's cameras are Pantone Validated for accurate colors and skin tones.

Motorola Edge 50 vs Edge 50 Fusion vs Edge 50 Pro: Which One Should You Buy?

If you are looking for a good smartphone with a capable chip for everyday multitasking, casual gaming, good battery life, and a good set of cameras then we'd recommend going with the cheaper Edge 50 Fusion at is a bargain buy at Rs 22,999.

The Edge 50 Pro brings minor improvements over the Edge 50 Fusion. It has a better chipset, display, build, and faster charging. However, the two main advantages here are its AI features and camera capabilities. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro offers a versatile set of cameras. So if you are a camera enthusiast but don't want to spend upwards of 40K for a good smartphone, the Edge 50 Pro is perfect for you.

Lastly, we come to the vanilla Edge 50, which aims to offer the best of both worlds. Despite its competitive pricing, the Motorola Edge 50 offers the same camera versatility as its 'Pro' counterpart, at some cost to overall quality. It also retains some of the best aspects of the Edge 50 Pro at a very modest price, making it our favorite of the lot.
