Nothing OS 5.0 Based on Android 17 Launching August 25: Check List of Eligible Phones and New Features

Nothing has officially confirmed the launch date for Nothing OS 5.0, the company's next major software update based on Android 17. The announcement comes as several smartphone brands, including Google, Samsung, OPPO, Xiaomi and Motorola, prepare to adopt the latest Android version.

Nothing has also reportedly begun preparations for the update, with a community review programme inviting Nothing Phone (3) users to test an upcoming software experience.

Nothing OS 5.0 Launch Date and Time

Nothing OS 5.0 will be officially unveiled on August 25 at 11:00 BST (3:30 PM IST). Nothing confirmed the date through a post on X featuring the tagline "More joy, every day".

The company is expected to showcase the new software through an online launch event. The announcement should reveal the major changes coming with Nothing OS 5.0, supported devices and details about the beta programme.

Nothing has not yet confirmed when the stable update will begin rolling out to users.

What to Expect From Nothing OS 5.0?

Nothing has kept the upcoming software update largely under wraps, so the complete feature list remains unknown. However, the company's teaser could offer some clues about what is coming.

The "More joy, every day" tagline could point towards expanded personalisation options, potentially including new widgets, icon styles and lockscreen customisation. The teaser also features animated gradients in multiple colours, suggesting that Nothing may introduce more colourful visual elements across the interface.

The update is expected to retain Nothing's distinctive design language while introducing features from Android 17.

The Nothing Phone (1) and Nothing Phone (2) are unlikely to receive the update as they have reached the end of their promised major software upgrade cycle. The CMF Phone 1 is also expected to miss the Android 17-based update.

When Will the Nothing OS 5.0 Beta Start?

Nothing is expected to begin its Nothing OS 5.0 beta programme with newer smartphones before expanding testing to other eligible models. The Nothing Phone (4a) series and Phone (3) could be among the first devices to receive the beta.

After the testing phase, Nothing is expected to release the stable version more broadly. The company should reveal the official eligible-device list, beta timeline and key Nothing OS 5.0 features during its August 25 announcement.
