The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has recently announced that the company is working on the Android 7.0 Nougat update and is planning to roll it out soon. Pete Lau, OnePlus's CEO took it to twitter to further confirm that the update will be rolled out as early as Christmas this year.
In addition to the company's flagship killer - the OnePlus 3, its predecessor, the OnePlus 2 will also receive the update but only after a month's time.
There is no word on the availability of an update for the OnePlus X yet. However, if interested, users can download the CyanogenMod CM14 ROM which is based on the Android 7.0 Nougat.
Here are a few features to expect from the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
Akin to the one seen on Samsung Galaxy smartphones, the OnePlus 3 will get support for multi-windows meaning you can watch YouTube videos while texting your friend simultaneously (either side-by-side or one-above-the-other).
Support for Google Daydream
The new Android Nougat update will bring support for Google's Daydream, the company's own virtual reality tech. So, get ready to immerse yourself in the virtual world. With that being said, OnePlus 3 won't be an ideal device for VR owing to the Full HD display. That, by any means, is not to say that the display on the handset is bad but it's just that a QHD display would serve the purpose better.
Data Saver mode
As the name itself suggests, the new data saver mode helps restrict 3G or 4G data usage by the apps running in background thereby, saving a considerate amount of mobile data. With this feature, you can also configure the device to update only when it latches to a Wi-Fi network.
Similar to the rich notifications seen on Apple's iOS 10, the Android 7.0 Nougat update brings support for interactive notifications. What this essentially means is that you can use this feature to quickly reply texts from the notifications itself without having to open the app.
