Couple of months ago, smartphone maker OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei in an interview with USA Today, said that the next OnePlus, the mini version smartphone will arrive before Christmas this year.
As promised, today Oneplus X has been launched in India and globally, being touted as the mini variant of flagship killer Oneplus 2.
Coming in two variants, namely OnePlus X Onyx and OnePlus X Ceramic (limited edition), it is the most affordable smartphone in the current OnePlus line-up with price starting at Rs 16,999. The company also claimed that the new OnePlus X smartphone is focussed at the design-conscious crowd.
Both the OnePlus X Onyx and Ceramic will be available on Amazon's India, subsidiary retail store at a price of Rs. 16,999 and Rs. 22,999 respectively. At this price point, the OnePlus X falls in direct competition with yet another star selling Chinese handset maker's offering, which dons the same 3GB RAM and Snapdragon 801 SoC -- Xiaomi Mi 4. So let's have a comparison between these two and find out which is better to buy.
Form Factor: OnePlus X has Gorilla Glass Protection, missing in Xiaomi Mi 4
Coming to the design language, the OnePlus X comes with glassy surface on both front and back along with the metal rim runs around the entire phone. Anyhow, the looks are somewhat similar to the Sony's traditional 'Omni-balance design'.
On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 4 comes with shiny plastic body along with stainless steel rim on the sides giving it solid build quality. In terms of display, the OnePlus X hold the edge over Mi 4 due to the lack of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
The Mi 4 sports a 5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels which translates to 441ppi. Meanwhile, OnePlus 2's little brother flaunts a 5-inch full HD AMOLED display with 1920×1080 pixels, which translates to 441ppi too.
Processor Power and Camera Optics are similar!
On the hardware front, both OnePlus X and Mi 4 is packed with the famous Snapdragon 801 processor, Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB RAM inside.
When it comes to taking photography, the two smartphones again shares the same specifications with 13MP rear camera, 8MP front snapper.
Storage: Xiaomi Mi 4 comes in two variants!
The OnePlus X comes with an inbuilt memory of 16GB along with expandable memory up to 128GB via microSD card. On the flipside, the Xiaomi Mi 4 comes in two variants which is 16GB/64GB, leaving no slot for expansion.
Connectivity: Oneplus X touts 4G connectivity!
Both the OnePlus X and Xiaomi Mi 4 comes with the regular set of options including WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, FM Radio 3.5mm audio jack. But the 4G LTE option from OnePlus X sets it apart from the Mi 4.
Operating System: Oneplus X has Lollipop!
Coming to the software front, the Mi 4 comes shipped with Android KitKat (upgradable to Lollipop OS) on top of MIUI 5, while the OnePlus X runs on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on top of Oxygen.
(Note: Xiaomi has rolled out its latest MIUI 7 update)
Battery: Xiaomi Mi4 has more battery power!
In this department, OnePlus X got over thrown by Mi 4, which utilizes 3080mAh Li-Ion battery inside, when compared to 2525mAh battery on OnePlus X.
Price: Big Fight!
As mentioned above, the OnePlus X carries a price tag of Rs. 16,999 for the Onyx variant and Rs. 22,999 for the Ceramic variant. The Xiaomi Mi 4 16GB is priced at Rs. 14,999, while the 64GB comes at Rs. 17,999.
Verdict:
Apparently, both the phones have their own pros and cons. Comparing these two devices, both of them comes almost with the similar specifications apart from minor differences like SIM slots, expandable memory options.
Considering 'worth the money factor', the OnePlus X has more latest and updated features, however, Xiaomi Mi 4 has better battery 64GB internal storage option.
