OnePlus X2 with Snapdragon 835 SoC likely in the making
OnePlus could bring the X series smartphones back to life with the alleged OnePlus X2.
Update: OnePlus has confirmed that they aren't working on a device called the OnePlus X2. Carl Pei, the company's co-founder has taken to Twitter to reveal that they are not prepping a successor to the OnePlus X.
OnePlus hasn't launched any X series smartphone since 2015 after the release of the OnePlus X smartphone. The reason is that the company started focusing on its flagship smartphones such as OnePlus 3, 3T, OnePlus 5 and 5T. Now, it looks like the company is once again prepping an X series smartphone in addition to its upcoming flagship smartphone - OnePlus 6.
As per a report by TechPP, there are speculations that OnePlus might bring the X series back to life with the announcement of a new device. It is believed to be dubbed OnePlus X2. According to the speculations, the OnePlus X2 might be unveiled after the OnePlus 6 and will be a cheaper alternative to the flagship device. It is said that this smartphone will make use of the octa-core Snapdragon 835 instead of the more powerful Snapdragon 845 chipset.
Why OnePlus X2?
Going by the speculations, it looks like the company has surplus stock of the Snapdragon 835 SoC even after the release of the OnePlus 5T and the high demand for this smartphone among buyers. Apparently, the announcement of another toned-down variant of the smartphone such as the OnePlus X2 would be an ideal solution to use the chipsets.
Rumored specs
OnePlus X2 is speculated to arrive with 4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage space that will make it available in two variants. The smartphone is believed to be launched with a 5.5-inch display with the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. The imaging aspects of this smartphone are likely to include a 16MP primary camera at the rear and an 8MP selfie camera at the front. The X2 is also believed to feature the Face Unlock technology to unlock the smartphone and authenticate payments. Also, a 3000mAh battery might be used by the smartphone to keep the lights turned on.
Could be a low-cost option
The OnePlus X2 is believed to be a low-cost variant for those who cannot afford the flagship OnePlus 6. It is alleged to be priced in the mid-range market between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 17,000. However, we cannot take things for granted right now as an official confirmation from the company regarding the existence of the OnePlus X2 is yet to be out.
