OPPO Find X9 vs OPPO Find X9s: What's Actually Different and Which One Should You Buy?

If you've been looking at OPPO's flagship lineup lately, there's a decent chance you're confused. The Find X9 launched in India back in November 2025. Now, months later, the Find X9s has been confirmed for an India launch in May 2026: two phones, similar names, similar positioning, and most likely overlapping price brackets. So yes, the confusion is understandable.

But once you break the two down properly, the differences are actually pretty clear. And more importantly, they make the value equation a bit awkward for the newer phone.

Where They Come From

The Find X9 series was first announced in China in October 2025, followed by a global unveil later that month. In India, the Find X9 launched in November at ₹74,999 for the 12GB + 256GB model, while the 16GB + 512GB variant came in at ₹84,999.

The Find X9s arrived much later. It had its global launch on April 21, 2026, alongside the Find X9 Ultra. OPPO has already confirmed that the X9s is coming to India in May, but Indian pricing is still under wraps.

The Chip Situation

This is the first thing most people will notice on a spec sheet.

The Find X9 (review) runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 9500. The Find X9s uses the Dimensity 9500s, which is essentially a refined version of the same platform. It’s built on a second-generation 3nm process, and OPPO positions it as offering better speed and efficiency than the original 9500.

That sounds good, and it probably is better in controlled tests. But this is not a full generational leap. It’s a smaller revision. Both chips are flagship-grade, both will feel fast, and both are more than enough for day-to-day use, gaming, multitasking, camera work, and long-term performance.

So yes, the X9s does get the newer silicon. But no, this is not the kind of difference that completely changes the experience.

Display

This is one of the areas where the two phones are identical.

Both use a 6.59-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Same size, same refresh rate, same general positioning. And both still use LTPS instead of LTPO.

That matters because LTPO is what allows a display to dynamically scale refresh rate more intelligently for power saving. At this level, especially on expensive flagship phones, the lack of LTPO is worth pointing out.

So if anyone expected the X9s to fix that, it doesn’t. The newer phone still carries the same display limitation.

Camera

This is where the more meaningful hardware difference shows up.

The Find X9 uses a 50MP main camera with Sony’s LYT-808 sensor, an f/1.6 aperture, and a relatively large 1/1.4-inch sensor. It also gets a 50MP ultra-wide at f/2.0, a 50MP telephoto at f/2.6 with OIS, plus a 2MP monochrome sensor. On top of that, it includes a spectral colour sensor. OPPO says the main camera captures 57% more light than the previous generation, and given the wider aperture and larger sensor, that claim at least makes sense on paper.

The Find X9s changes the formula a bit. It uses a 50MP main camera with the smaller Sony LYT-700 sensor, an f/1.8 aperture, a 50MP ultra-wide at f/2.0, and a 50MP telephoto at f/2.6 with two-axis OIS. What it drops is just as important as what it keeps. There’s no spectral colour sensor here, and that means one of the more premium camera-related extras from the X9 is gone.

In simple terms, the X9 has the better main camera hardware. A larger sensor and wider aperture usually mean better light intake, stronger low-light performance, and more flexibility in tougher shooting conditions. In daylight, the difference may not be dramatic. But indoors, at night, or in more challenging scenes, the Find X9 should still have the edge.

That’s the part that makes this a little strange. The older phone appears to be the more serious camera package.

Battery And Charging

On battery size, there’s no difference at all.

Both phones use the same 7,025mAh silicon-carbon battery, and that’s a strong spec in itself. It’s one of the bigger battery capacities you’ll find in this segment, and it should translate well in day-to-day use.

Wired charging is also the same on both at 80W.

The odd part is wireless charging. The Find X9 supports 50W wireless charging. The Find X9s drops wireless charging entirely.

That’s a very weird omission for a phone likely to sit in this price bracket. Usually, a follow-up model either keeps the same premium features or builds on them. Here, OPPO has removed one.

So even though the X9s is newer, it is also clearly less complete in one area that matters on an expensive flagship.

Build And Hardware

On build quality and durability, the two phones are basically aligned.

Both come with IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings. Both run ColorOS 16 based on Android 16. Both also carry Hasselblad colour tuning across the camera system. So from a software and day-to-day polish standpoint, they remain close.

But there’s another shared limitation here that doesn’t look great. Both still use USB 2.0.

At flagship pricing, that feels dated. It may not matter to everyone, but for people who move large files, use wired accessories often, or just expect more complete hardware at this level, it stands out.

So What Actually Changed?

Once you strip away the naming, the Find X9s is basically a Find X9 with four major changes.

First, it gets the newer Dimensity 9500s instead of the Dimensity 9500.

Second, it switches from the LYT-808 main camera to the weaker LYT-700.

Third, it drops the spectral colour sensor.

Fourth, and probably most surprisingly, it loses wireless charging altogether.

Outside of that, a lot stays the same. Same battery size. Same 80W wired charging. Same 6.59-inch 120Hz LTPS display. Same USB 2.0 port. Same IP ratings. Same software base.

That’s why this comparison doesn’t land as a simple “newer is better” story.

The Bigger Question Is Price

And this is where the Find X9 still makes more sense, especially if the X9s comes in high.

The Find X9 is already available in India starting at ₹74,999. For that money, you’re getting the better main camera sensor, the spectral colour sensor, and 50W wireless charging. In other words, you’re getting the more complete hardware package.

The Find X9s does have the newer chip, and that will matter to some buyers. But once you step back, it’s clear that OPPO hasn’t really upgraded the phone across the board. In a few areas, it has actually trimmed it down.

So if the Find X9s launches at a clearly lower price than the Find X9, then the trade-off starts to make sense. A slightly cheaper entry into the lineup with a slightly newer chip is a reasonable pitch.

But if OPPO prices it too close to the Find X9, then the older phone still looks like the smarter buy. In fact, the higher the X9s is priced, the more the Find X9 starts to make sense.

That’s really the key point here. The Find X9 can justify a higher price better because it offers more where it counts. Better main camera hardware, extra camera sensing hardware, and wireless charging are not minor details on a premium phone.

Get The Find X9 If

Get the Find X9 if camera quality matters most to you, especially in low light, and if you want the more complete flagship package. The larger LYT-808 sensor, wider aperture, spectral colour sensor, and wireless charging all work in its favor.

It also has one big practical advantage: you can buy it in India right now.

Get The Find X9s If

Get the Find X9s if you want the newer chip and are willing to accept the trade-offs. It’s still clearly a high-end phone, and for most people it will be fast, polished, and more than capable.

But this recommendation depends heavily on pricing. If OPPO launches it aggressively below the Find X9, it can make sense as the cheaper, newer alternative.

If it doesn’t, then the Find X9 remains the better buy, even months after launch.
