Robot Phone, Foldable Gaming Handheld, Modular Phone/PC, Phone for Pets: Most Innovative Devices at MWC 2026

Every year, MWC Barcelona brings together the world's biggest tech companies to showcase the future of mobile innovation. Held annually in Spain, the event is one of the largest gatherings for the global mobile industry, where brands unveil new smartphones, concepts, and cutting-edge gadgets.

MWC 2026 delivered some of the most unusual and forward-thinking devices yet - from the world's slimmest smartphones and next-generation foldables to AI-powered robot phones with moving camera systems. The show also highlighted emerging categories such as gaming handhelds, experimental gadgets, and even a phone designed for pets, offering a glimpse into where personal technology could be headed next.

Most Innovative Devices at MWC 2026

Honor's Robot Phone

The Honor Robot Phone was briefly teased at CES, but the company revealed more details and demonstrations at MWC Barcelona. The device features a motorised pop-up camera mounted on a miniature gimbal that can nod, shake, and rotate 360 degrees, giving it a playful, character-like behaviour. It can even move in sync with music during demos.

Honor says foldable phone research helped develop the device, including the industry's smallest micro motor, around 70 percent smaller than typical alternatives. The gimbal is described as the smallest four-degrees-of-freedom system in a phone, paired with a 200MP main sensor and three-axis stabilisation. AI features include Super Steady Video, AI Object Tracking, and SpinShot transitions. Honor plans to launch the device later this year.

GlocalMe PetPhone

The GlocalMe PetPhone is one of the quirkiest gadgets showcased at MWC Barcelona 2026. Designed for cats and dogs, the collar-mounted device combines GPS tracking, health monitoring, and two-way audio, allowing owners to track location, activity levels, and communicate with their pets.

Unlike Bluetooth trackers, PetPhone uses cellular connectivity for precise positioning. Its standout feature, "Paw Call Me," lets pets trigger a call by jumping three times within six seconds, enabling owners to speak through the built-in speaker.

Priced at about $90, the device requires a subscription plan starting around $5 per month. GlocalMe also demonstrated PetCam, a collar-mounted camera that captures or livestreams video from a pet's perspective.

Tecno's Modular Smartphone

The Tecno Atom Moda Edition explores the idea of turning smartphone cases into functional add-ons rather than simple protection. The concept device uses Modular Magnetic Interconnection Technology, allowing accessories to snap onto the phone through magnets and exposed pogo pins.

The phone itself features a futuristic design with a large display and a raised camera bar. Tecno showcased several modular attachments, including battery packs, earbuds, and other accessories. The most notable add-on is a camera module with an optical zoom lens, along with an action-camera-style attachment designed for point-of-view video capture.

Tecno hasn't confirmed if the Atom Moda Edition will move beyond the concept stage, but the modular approach hints at an interesting direction for smartphone accessories.

Lenovo Legion Go Fold

The Lenovo Legion Go Fold explores how far a foldable gaming handheld can go. The concept centres on an 11.6-inch foldable display paired with detachable controllers that connect through pin-based mounts on multiple sides. This allows the screen to fold into a compact 7.7-inch mode or expand for a larger gaming view.

Powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor with 32GB RAM, the device is designed to handle 1080p gaming, though its 48Wh battery may limit endurance. Beyond gaming, the foldable screen can attach to a wireless keyboard, turning it into a small Windows PC for basic tasks.

While still a concept with software quirks and durability concerns, the Legion Go Fold hints at new directions for portable gaming hardware.

Leica Leitzphone

The Leica Leitzphone takes a different approach to smartphone design by focusing almost entirely on photography. Developed with Xiaomi, the device brings Leica's classic camera philosophy into a modern smartphone form factor.

The phone features a large camera module with a rotatable control ring, designed to mimic the tactile feel of a real camera lens. Under the hood, it packs flagship hardware including a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, a 1-inch main sensor, and a 200MP telephoto camera aimed at serious mobile photographers.

Priced around €1,999, the Leitzphone sits firmly in boutique-flagship territory, targeting users who want a smartphone that feels closer to a dedicated camera than a typical slab device.

TCL Nxtpaper AMOLED

The TCL Nxtpaper AMOLED isn't a gadget in itself, but it could shape future phones and tablets. TCL has been developing Nxtpaper displays to bridge the gap between traditional LCD screens and e-ink panels found in devices like Amazon Kindle. The technology uses a matte surface, reduced blue light, and anti-glare treatment to make screens appear more paper-like.

At MWC Barcelona 2026, TCL revealed the next evolution of the technology, this time built on an AMOLED panel instead of LCD. The shift should improve colour vibrancy while maintaining the eye-comfort features Nxtpaper is known for. TCL demonstrated the display in a concept device, though no commercial products have been confirmed yet.

A Camping Phone

The Oukitel WP63 stands out as one of the most unusual phones shown at MWC Barcelona 2026. Instead of focusing purely on specs, the rugged device includes a built-in pop-out lighter designed to help users start fires in outdoor survival situations.

The phone features a 6.7-inch 720p display with a 120Hz refresh rate and runs on a Unisoc T8200 (T765) chipset. It also packs a massive 20,000mAh battery that can charge other devices at 18W through an integrated USB-C cable.

Additional survival features include a bright flashlight, a loud emergency alarm speaker, satellite SOS support, and a durable design, making the WP63 a phone clearly built for extreme environments.

Lenovo ThinkBook Modular AI PC

The Lenovo ThinkBook Modular AI PC Concept explores a more practical take on modular laptops. At first glance, the device looks like a standard 14-inch business notebook, but its design reveals several interchangeable components.

A second 14-inch display can magnetically attach to the back of the lid, allowing users to mirror their screen for someone sitting opposite. The panel can also detach and function as a portable monitor. Lenovo even allows the keyboard to be swapped with the display, creating a dual-screen workstation while the keyboard connects wirelessly.

The modular approach also extends to ports, with USB-A, USB-C, and HDMI modules that can be repositioned on either side of the laptop. It remains a concept, but the idea feels surprisingly practical.

MWC 2026 showed that innovation in mobile tech is moving beyond traditional smartphones. From robot-like cameras and modular devices to foldable gaming handhelds and gadgets designed for pets or outdoor survival, brands are experimenting with bold ideas. While many remain concepts, these devices offer an early glimpse at how future gadgets could evolve.
