Design, Display
In terms of design, both phones look pretty similar, although the Galaxy S24 features flat sides, similar to the iPhone 15. The Samsung Galaxy S24 also boasts a tougher Armor Aluminum frame. There's not much separating the two phones in terms of design and build.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 has a slightly larger display, although the panel here gets a lot brighter than on the Galaxy S23. The main difference here is in the peak brightness, which goes up to 2,600 nits for the Galaxy S24 as opposed to 1,750 nits on the S23. Moreover, the Galaxy S23 boasts an adaptive refresh rate between 48Hz - 120Hz, whereas the Galaxy S24 manages 1Hz - 120Hz.
Performance, Software
While the Samsung Galaxy S23 uses a custom version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC for Galaxy, its successor opts for the Exynos 2400 chipset. And while this year's Exynos chip might offer an edge over last year's Snapdragon SoC, this might not be the case when pitted against the SD 8 Gen 3 chipset. This will put Indian audiences at an immediate disadvantage.
However, the primary focus with the Galaxy S24 series was AI. The Samsung Galaxy S24 will have a myriad of new AI features to improve your photography editing experience. The features also aim to make daily life with the handset more convenient. Finally, the Galaxy S24 gets a whopping seven years of software and security updates as opposed to four on the Galaxy S23.
Cameras, Battery, Pricing
Samsung hasn't really updated the cameras on the Galaxy S24 series. However, Galaxy AI is set to have the biggest impact on camera performance, improving image processing and making editing photos on the fly easier than ever. We haven't tested the cameras on the Galaxy S24 yet, so we'll withhold final judgement for later.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 has a slightly larger battery than that of the Galaxy S23, although the difference is miniscule. However, the new AI features should help improve battery life on the vanilla S24. Lastly, only the Galaxy S24 supports Qi2 wireless charging.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 price in India starts from Rs 64,999 for the base 8GB/128GB variant. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S24 comes in at Rs 15,000 more, with a price tag of Rs 79,999 for the base 8GB/256GB model.
Samsung Galaxy S24 vs Galaxy S23: Which One Should You Get?
There are very few differences between the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24. In terms of hardware, the two devices are nearly identical. However, with the new developments in AI, the Samsung Galaxy S24 might be worth an extra Rs 15,000.
But we are yet to put those AI features to the test in the real-world. In terms of hardware, the Galaxy S24 brings a tougher build and a brighter screen. Additionally, the base model of the Galaxy S24 now comes with 256GB of storage as opposed to 128GB on the S23.
You also get much better software support on the Galaxy S24, which will also make it more appealing for second-hand buyers. But it is too early to tell if the Exynos chip will stand the test of time. If we had to pick, we'd pay the extra 10K - 15K for the S24 as there some clear improvements here and the big AI upgrades could be game changing.
