Samsung Galaxy S9: Will it be the ultimate flagship?
Funnily enough, the Galaxy S9 has already appeared in so many leaks that we already have quite a good idea of what they are bringing to the table.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are the most anticipated smartphones at the moment. The company is all set to unveil its new flagship duo at its Galaxy UNPACKED event on February 25, just ahead of MWC 2018 in Barcelona. Funnily enough, the smartphones have already appeared in so many leaks that we already have quite a good idea of what they are bringing to the table.
Do note that the leaks come from big names like Roland Quandt and Evan Blass. Even in 2017, their speculations about the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ were bang on. So we are sure their predictions will turn out to be accurate this year as well. As some of you are aware, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will not be a major upgrade from its predecessor. At least, in terms of design.
If you are wondering about the specs, the Samsung Galaxy S9 is believed to arrive with a few under the hood improvements. What's more, the camera department of the smartphone will be pretty impressive.
Design and Display
If you are expecting an entirely refreshed design on Galaxy S9, you will be disappointed. As stated earlier, the smartphone will retain most of its design elements from its predecessor, the Galaxy S8. This means, it will have the same full-screen design with no physical buttons at the front.
That said, the smartphone will have minor changes like narrower bezels and a relocated fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner is now placed just below the rear camera module.
Talking about the display, the Galaxy S9 will be fitted a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display with a screen resolution of 1,440×2,960 pixels and 18.5:9 aspect ratio.
Despite not incorporating many changes in the design language, the Samsung Galaxy S9 will surely be a head turner.
Under the hood
Forget everything, the hardware part actually decides the fate of any smartphone. From what we have been hearing so far, Samsung will stick to its trend of using two different processor in its Galaxy S9 series. The Galaxy S9 will be powered by either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC or Exynos 9810 SoC depending on the region.
Sorry to break the news, the smartphone will have the same amount of RAM and internal storage as that of its predecessor. There will be 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage on board.
The Galaxy S9 will not have any upgrades in the battery department. It will pack a 3,000mAh battery, probably with fast charging support. However, since the smartphone will feature a better processor, the battery performance should be improved.
Cameras
The camera department will be one of the key highlights of Samsung Galaxy S9. The smartphone may not come with a dual camera setup, but it will include some high-end features.
The Galaxy S9 will be equipped with a 12MP rear-facing camera capable of switching between f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures. To put it simply, in low-light conditions, users will be able to use the f/1.5 aperture to capture superior quality pictures. However, the rear camera will use f/2.4 aperture to click images when there is sufficient light.
Variable aperture in smartphone cameras is relatively a new thing, with currently only Samsung's flagship W2018 flip phone having the same feature.
What's more, the rear camera could be accompanied by a quad-LED flash just like the iPhone X. As for the front camera, the Galaxy S9 will feature an 8MP sensor.
Software, Sensors and Special Features
The Samsung Galaxy S9 will run on Android Oreo operating system right out of the box. The smartphone will also include Iris Scanner, face recognition technology, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5 and USB Type C.
It will also carry IP68 certification, which means the Galaxy S9 will be resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes.
Will it fulfill your expectation?
Well, at first glance, the Samsung Galaxy S9 may not seem much of an upgrade over its predecessor. However, judging from all the rumors and leaks, we believe the device will outshine all the previous generation Galaxy S smartphones and deliver a seamless mobile experience one would expect from an Android flagship.
Moreover, we are certain that the South Korean tech giant has few more tricks under its sleeve that will complement the upcoming flagship.
In any case, all rumors and half-baked reports will be put to rest when the company finally showcases the Galaxy S9 on this coming Sunday.
