Design, Display, Build
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 opts for a glass back panel with Gorilla Glass 2 protection on the cover display and an aluminum frame. The Razr 50 Ultra, on the other hand, features a leather back panel with an aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the cover screen. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is slightly sleeker and lighter than the Razr 50 Ultra.
The noticeable difference here is that the cover display on the Razr 50 Ultra encompasses the entire back panel, while the Galaxy Z Flip 6's cover screen appears to be shaped like a folder, leaving the two camera sensors out of the display area. Both flip smartphones offer IPX8 water resistance, although the Z Flip 6's IP48 rating should protect against larger dust particles.
Both phones feature LTPO AMOLED main displays with an FHD+ resolution. However, the Razr 50 Ultra has a slightly brighter inner display and supports Dolby Vision. It also has a higher 165Hz refresh rate. Moreover, the Razr 50 Ultra also has a larger cover screen.

In terms of display quality, the cover screen on the Razr 50 Ultra has the Z Flip 6 beat. Additionally, the Razr 50 Ultra can run just about any app or game on its cover screen, offering much more flexibility and making it more functional than the outer display on the Z Flip 6.
Performance, Software, Battery
In terms of performance, the Galaxy Z Flip 6's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip makes it the most powerful clamshell foldable to date, so there's no question of the Razr 50 Ultra even coming close here. Both the Razr 50 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 6 boasts a wealth of AI features to improve performance and provide a more seamless user experience.
However, Motorola's software is rather clean and free of bloatware, whereas the Galaxy Z Flip 6 goes heavy on pre-installed apps. On the flip side, Samsung offers much better software support and a more consistent upgrade cycle than Motorola, giving it an edge in terms of longevity.
Both the Razr 50 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 6 feature a similar sized battery, although we'd have to give Motorola the edge here as the flagship chip on the Flip 6 will consume more power. Both phones support fast wired and wireless charging, although Motorola's wired charging support is faster.
Cameras
For optics, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra features a 50 MP Samsung ISOCELL GN8 primary sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, PDAF, and OIS support. The main camera is accompanied by a 50 MP Samsung ISOCELL JN1 telephoto shooter with an f/2.0 aperture and PDAF. Up front, there's a 32 MP OmniVision OV32B selfie camera with an f/2.5 aperture.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fip 6 gets an upgraded 50 MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture dual-pixel PDAF, and OIS support. The 12 MP ultrawide and 10 MP front cameras are the same as those on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. It is worth noting that we are yet to test out the cameras on both flip smartphones.
However, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 recently received the flagship treatment with an upgrade to the main camera. Samsung also heavily relies on software and with the aid of AI, the Z Flip 6's camera is going to get a significant boost. If we were to choose one of the two for camera performance, it would have to be the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Motorola Razr 50 Ultra: Final Thoughts
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 does have an edge over the Razr 50 Ultra in terms of hardware and build quality. Samsung also offers better software support and AI features over the Razr 50 Ultra. On the flip side, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra takes a major win on the display front. Fortunately for Motorola, display plays a pivotal role on a clamshell foldable.
Not only does Motorola have the largest cover screen of any flip smartphone, but it is also the most functional with the widest range of apps supported. If we had to pick between one of the two, it would be the Razr 50 Ultra for the utility of the second screen and the lower price tag. However, for those who prefer better cameras, performance, and software reliability we'd recommend the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
