Design, Build, Display

All three smartphones prioritize style over comfort, opting for curved displays. The Vivo V40 features a glass back panel, while you can choose between glass or vegan leather for the Realme 13 Pro+ or plastic and leather for the Motorola Edge 50 Pro. While the V40 and Edge 50 Pro use metal frames, the Realme 13 Pro Plus opts for a plastic frame.

While the Vivo V40 and Motorola Edge 50 Pro come with a flagship-grade IP68 rating, the Realme 13 Pro+ is downgraded to IP65 to resist water and dust. The Vivo V40 is also sleekest of the three phones, measuring just 7.6mm thick, although it isn't all that comfortable to use without a cover.

All three phones on our list feature super-smooth displays, although the Edge 50 Pro takes the win here with its 144Hz panel. Moreover, the Edge 50 Pro and Vivo V40's screens feature a higher resolution than the Realme 13 Pro+. Motorola and Vivo also offer HDR10+ support, while the V40 has the highest peak brightness of the three.

Performance, Battery, Software

The incorporation of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip on the Edge 50 Pro and Vivo V40 gives them an edge over the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC on the Realme 13 Pro+. We have tested the Motorola Edge 50 and Vivo V40 and both phones fared evenly in the benchmarking tests, although the latter is better equipped for gaming.

The Realme 13 Pro+ is the slowest of the three phones, with a nearly 25% dip in performance. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip is also better equipped to handle AI workloads, while consuming less power.

In terms of battery capacity, the Vivo V40 takes the crown with the Realme 12 Pro+ following in a close second. Finally, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro has the smallest battery of the three, nearly 25% smaller than the Vivo V40. While all three phones support extremely fast charging, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro supports both wired and wireless fast charging.

When it comes to software, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro takes the win for its clean, bloat-free UI. Both Realme UI and Funtouch OS have their fair share of bloatware but a lot of it can be uninstalled. However, the user experience is not quite as seamless as the Edge 50 Pro.

Cameras

Straight off the bat, both the Realme 13 Pro+ and Motorola Edge 50 Pro feature three rear cameras as opposed to two shooters on the Vivo V40.

First up, the Realme 13 Pro+ features a 50MP Sony LYT-701 primary sensor with OIS and PDAF, a 50MP Sony LYT-600 periscope lens with 3x optical zoom, PDAF, and OIS, and an 8MP Sony IMX355 ultrawide lens. Up front, the Realme 13 Pro Plus opts for a 32MP selfie camera with an f/2.5 aperture.

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro opts for a 50MP OmniVision OV50E primary sensor with OIS, PDAF, and Laser AF, a 13MP SK Hynix HI1336 ultrawide lens with PDAF, and a 10MP Samsung S5K3K1 telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom, OIS, and PDAF. Up front, the Edge 50 Pro opts for a 50MP Samsung JNS selfie camera sensor with AF.

Lastly, the Vivo V40 features a dual-rear camera setup with a 50MP unnamed primary sensor with PDAF and OIS and a 50MP ultrawide lens, possibly a Samsung JN1 sensor, with AF. Up front, the Vivo V40 opts for a 50MP selfie camera sensor with AF.

While the Vivo V40 and Motorola Edge 50 Pro can record 4K video at 30fps, the Realme 13 Pro Plus is limited to 1080p resolution at 30fps. The main cameras of the three phones feature nearly similar sensor sizes, although the Edge 50 Pro does come with the added benefit of Laser AF.

In terms of overall camera quality, Vivo takes the win thanks to its accurate color reproduction, ZEISS portrait capabilities, and consistency across the two lenses, although it does lack a bit of versatility due to the lack of a third telephoto lens. However, the Edge 50 Pro does come in close second, offering more versatility for those zoomed shots.

The Realme 13 Pro+ boasts a formidable setup as well, offering the best results for zoom shots. Moreover, it also features a solid primary camera sensor that can keep up with both of its competitors here, although we have it in last because of the dated ultrawide and selfie cameras, which aren't quite as good as the competition.

Vivo V40 vs Motorola Edge 50 Pro vs Realme 13 Pro+: Which One Should You Buy?

Picking one of the three phones is all down to preference. The Vivo V40 offers amazing camera performance across all three of its lenses but lacks a bit of versatility due to the lack of a telephoto camera. It also has a sleek design, tough build, reliable chipset, massive battery, and vibrant display.

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro shares most of the same hardware traits as the Vivo V40 but is not quite as sleek. On the flip side, the Edge 50 Pro's software is unmatched against its two competitors. Camera performance on the Edge 50 Pro is comparable to the Vivo V40 on the main and front shooters, although the ultrawide lens leaves a lot to be desired.

The Edge 50 Pro does come with the telephoto shooter for more versatility. However, Motorola does struggle in the battery department. Lastly, the Realme 13 Pro+ offers something none of its competitors can, which is a flagship-level periscope camera. The Realme 13 Pro+ also offers excellent battery life and an equally impressive display. But the downside is the dated ultrawide camera, the sub-par chip, and the plastic frame.
