Vivo recently launched the Vivo V50 5G in India, which comes as a successor to the V40 5G. While both phones share identical designs, they have some key differences in terms of display, battery and charging speed that set them apart.

Both phones' prices in India start at Rs 34,999, so, let's find out if the Vivo V50 is worth the price or if you should settle for its predecessor, the Vivo V40, which is now available at a discounted price of Rs 32,299.

As noted, both models retain the same design with curved sides and a sleek form factor. However, the Vivo V50 comes with IP68+ IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance, while the Vivo V40 features a single IP68 rating. Even the latest model has a quad-curved AMOLED display, but it has a slightly smaller screen compared to the Vivo V40. Moreover, the screen refresh rate and peak brightness remain the same for both models.

In terms of processors, both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 2.2 onboard storage. The processor is capable of handling multitasking and gaming tasks with ease.

In our Vivo V40 review, we saw that Vivo V40 managed a single score of 1,144 points and a multi-core score of 3123 points on Geekbench 6. We ran Call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends on high settings on the V40 without any lag or frame rate drops after 30 minutes of gameplay.

On the software front, both phones come with three years of Android OS updates and four years of regular security patches. However, the Vivo V50's highlight is its 6000mAh battery completed by 90W fast charging, which Vivo claims is the slimmest battery of this size in its segment. In contrast, the Vivo V40 packs 5,500mAh with 80W charging, which can juice up the phone from 0% to 100% in just 45 minutes.

In terms of camera, both phones offer ZEISS optics including a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) 50MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 50MP selfie camera. Both units feature a "Studio-Quality" Aura light to enhance low-light photography.

The Vivo V50 and V40 are remarkably similar, sharing the same features in terms of performance and camera capabilities. However, the V50 offers a compelling upgrade for those prioritizing display and durability, featuring a quad-curved AMOLED screen.

While battery life and charging speed see only marginal improvements, the V50 introduces two fresh colour options: Rose Red and Starry Night. Ultimately, if you're already using Vivo V40 5G, there's no sense to go for the Vivo V50, can consider other alternatives like the OnePlus 13R and Redmi Note 14 Pro+. But for those in the market for a new Vivo phone, the Vivo V50 could be a good pick for its asking price.
