Which Android Phones Are Powered by Google’s Gemini Nano? Here’s the List
Google's Gemini Nano, a mobile-optimized version of its large language model (LLM), is now available on a growing list of Android devices. Initially released on the Pixel 8 Pro in December 2023, Gemini Nano has since expanded to other phones, offering advanced AI capabilities designed to enhance the user experience across multiple applications.
What is Gemini Nano?
Gemini Nano is a slimmed-down version of Google's broader Gemini LLM, specifically designed for mobile devices. It allows phones to perform advanced AI functions locally, without needing to rely on cloud-based systems. This on-device AI model helps preserve privacy while powering features like smart replies, image analysis, and transcript summaries.

Unlike traditional AI models that require constant internet access, Gemini Nano runs directly on your phone, keeping data more secure.
Key Use Cases for Gemini Nano
The AI-powered features that Gemini Nano enables vary based on the version of the model available on a device. For example, earlier versions of Gemini Nano are text-based and support functionalities like generating smart replies in Gboard or summarizing audio transcripts in the Pixel Recorder app. These capabilities can streamline daily tasks, helping users respond faster and organize information more efficiently.
More advanced versions of Gemini Nano, which support multimodal input (text, image, speech, and audio), go even further. Devices equipped with the latest version can power features like TalkBack's image description tool, Pixel Screenshots' local image analysis, and the summarization of both phone calls and weather updates. This multimodal support opens up new possibilities for how AI can assist users in various contexts, such as accessibility and real-time content creation.
Expanding to More Devices
Initially exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro, Gemini Nano has expanded to more devices throughout 2024, including models from Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Realme, and other Google phones. As of October 2024, 15 devices support the original version of Gemini Nano, while four additional devices now run the more advanced multimodal version.

The latest version with multimodality is currently exclusive to the Pixel 9 series. However, Google's efforts to expand access to Gemini Nano, including opening experimental access to its AI Edge SDK, suggest that more devices may soon benefit from these advanced AI features.
For now, third-party developers can experiment with text-to-text prompting, laying the groundwork for future AI-powered app development.
