Xiaomi 14 CIVI vs Vivo V30 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S23 FE: India’s Best Flagship Killer?

The Xiaomi 14 CIVI recently made its debut in India's flagship killer space. With a starting price of Rs 42,999, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI aims to take on the premium smartphones that sit right under the flagship segment, which is the sub-50K space.

And unlike some of its competitors, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI is marketed as the smartphone that can do it all. However, it does have two primary competitors in this segment that offer a similar proposition - the Vivo V30 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. So let's see which of these so-called flagship killers come out on top in our ultimate sub-50K smartphone comparison.

Design, Build, Display

Starting off with the design, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI and Vivo V30 Pro opt for a sleek and lightweight form factor. The V30 Pro's curved sides give it a more stylish look but make it more uncomfortable to grip. The Galaxy S23 FE features a more traditional design and features flat sides with rounded edges.

On the other hand, Xiaomi uses a unique 'Quad Curved Display', providing a nice balance of style and comfort. While the Xiaomi 14 CIVI and Galaxy S23 FE use premium metal frames, the Vivo V30 Pro opts for a plastic frame. Xiaomi uses ultra-though Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to protect the screen and AG glass on the back.

The Galaxy S23 FE opts for Gorilla Glass 5 on both the back and front. The Vivo V30 Pro uses Schott α glass protection on the front and features an AG glass back. Samsung also offers an IP68 rating for proper water and dust resistance, while Vivo and Xiaomi settle for inferior splash resistance.

All three phones feature a 120Hz AMOLED display, although Xiaomi's screen is touted to have 68B colors and brings Dolby Vision support. It also offers the highest pixel density and peak brightness of the three.

On paper, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI's screen is the best of the lot, although it isn't quite as good as panel on the Vivo V30 (Review). It is worth noting that we haven't tested the displays on the Galaxy S23 FE and Vivo V30 Pro.

Performance, Battery, Software

While both the Exynos 2200 and MediaTek Dimensity 8200 are solid chips that will allow you to game on high settings, they are not quite as powerful as the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC. Moreover, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip on the Xiaomi 14 CIVI also offers significantly better AI performance. Xiaomi has also incorporated its flagship killer with faster RAM and storage.

When it comes to battery capacity, the Vivo V30 Pro has the largest cell, although the Xiaomi 14 CIVI is not too far off, while the Galaxy S23 FE is considerably smaller. On the flip side, the CIVI also has the most power efficient chip.

Since we haven't tested the three phones, we'll go with the V30 Pro for the best battery life of the lot. Additionally, Vivo also brings the fastest charging capability with Xiaomi coming in close second and Samsung far behind in last place. The Galaxy S23 FE is also the only phone here that doesn't include an adapter in the box.

All three phones run the latest Android 14 software with their own custom skins on top. While Xiaomi's HyperOS offers the cleanest experience, the Vivo V30 Pro and Galaxy S23 FE feel more cluttered, going heavy on the bloat.

On the flip side, One UI on the Galaxy S23 FE is much more customizable. Samsung also offers the best software support and has a better track record of timely updates. The Xiaomi 14 CIVI and Vivo V30 Pro will get three Android OS updates and four years of regular security updates, one less than Samsung.

It is worth noting though that since the Galaxy S23 FE was released on Android 13, it will get the same number of OS and security updates as the Vivo V30 Pro and Xiaomi 14 CIVI. The Galaxy S23 FE is arguably the best phone on our list in terms of overall software prowess, particularly with several AI features.

Cameras

On paper, the Vivo V30 Pro features the most formidable camera setup of any phone on the list, with its three 50 MP sensors for the main, telephoto, and ultrawide lenses. However, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI is not too far behind, with excellent camera performance for the sub-45K smartphone.

Xiaomi 14 CIVI vs Vivo V30 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S23 FE

The Galaxy S23 FE is no slouch either, with a solid combination of hardware and software. On the flip side, the cameras on both the 14 CIVI and V30 Pro are fine-tuned by camera experts Leica and ZEISS, making them the two best phones in the segment for portrait photography.

The Xiaomi 14 CIVI does offer an advantage in the selfie department with two front cameras, a main and ultrawide. However, the V30 Pro offers the highest resolution selfie camera, while the Galaxy S23 FE's front shooter is the only one that can record 4K video at up to 60fps.

We haven't tested the cameras on the Vivo V30 Pro and Galaxy S23 FE, but the Xiaomi 14 CIVI's results were stunning for the price. We're sure Samsung and Vivo will be able to compete with Xiaomi here, so we're calling this a three-way tie.

Xiaomi 14 CIVI vs Vivo V30 Pro vs Samsung Galaxy S23 FE: Our Thoughts

If you are looking for a sleek and stylish smartphone that has an excellent pair of cameras, then the Vivo V30 Pro is the way to go. And while the Vivo V30 Pro falls short in terms of performance, it will still offer fluid multitasking and casual gaming performance. Moreover, it offers excellent battery life and a vibrant display. The one downside is that this design isn't very ergonomic.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE offers excellent software support, formidable cameras, a comfortable design, and one of the best screens in the segment. However, it does have a dated chipset, slow charging support compared to the competition, and no adapter in the box. But we'd also give Samsung the win in terms of overall build quality.

That brings us to the Xiaomi 14 CIVI. Xiaomi perfectly balances style and substance with the 14 CIVI, offering a versatile set of cameras, the best performance, solid battery with fast charging, an immersive display, and a sleek form factor with an ergonomic design. While the Galaxy S23 FE and Vivo V30 Pro are excellent options in the sub-45K segment, we'd say that the Xiaomi 14 CIVI offers the best overall smartphone experience.
