Gionee Elife S5.1 Review: Camera and Video
Gionee's new Elife S5.1 comes with an 8-megapixel auto-focus rear camera with LED flash. Also, there's the front camera that can shoot at 5-megapixel resolution. And it has to be mentioned that the company has bundled a CharmCam app for the handset apart from the proprietary camera app.
Going through the CharmCam, the app provides as many as five modes for you to choose from, placed at the bottom. These include Face Beauty, Make Up, Live Filters, Stamps and PPT. The CharmCam app also looks like it might attract a few who like to have some options on offer while taking images.
Heading back to the native camera app, it's not that great as you might think. We aren't sure about this one, but we think that the settings pane for the camera app has a somewhat scaling problem when the phone is held in a horizontal posture. Also, it takes up more than half of the screen.
In terms of imaging and image quality, the 8-megapixel camera on the smartphone is not that fast either. Sure the photos will look more than decent on the screen of the phone, but putting them on a larger screen may lead to issues. However, the HDR mode works in the background and keeps fixing the photos that you click.
Also, in terms of low light photography, things even get worse. The 8-megapixel camera doesn't do anything big that might be anything out of the ordinary. In fact, we would recommend that you stop taking photos in the night if are an owner of the Elfie S5.1.
The 5-megapixel front snapper, however, does a good job of taking selfies. While it isn't something we saw with the Lenovo Vibe Z or Sony Xperia C3, but the images are more than manageble for social networking sites. The 1080p video capturing ability of the camera also lacks detail.
