HTC 8X Vs Samsung Ativ S: Which is a Better WP8 Smartphone?

After Nokia and Samsung, Taiwanese tech giant unwrapped its official collection of the Windows Phone 8 handsets – HTC 8X and HTC 8S this Wednesday in New York. Considering it as a wise step, the whole tech media world is comparing the new offspring of these three major tech giants.

Following the comparison of HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920, Gizbot has now come up with a spec comparison of HTC 8X with Samsung Ativ S smartphone unveiled by the South Korean handset vendor – Samsung at the IFA 2012 in August. Check it out:

Dimension & Weight: While HTC 8X carries a dimension of 132.35 x 66.2 x 10.12 mm and weighs in at 130 grams,Ativ S boasts a marginally bigger dimension of 137.2 x 70.5 x 8.7 mm and weighs around 135 grams.

Display: Speaking about display, 8X packs a 4.3 inch Super LCD 2 HD capacitive touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution.

On the other hand, Ativ S houses a larger 4.8 inch Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Both the displays are protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass technology, which makes them scratch resistant.

Processor: In this semgent, both the smartphones score equally as they have a 1.5GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.

Operating System:Being handsets running on Windows Phone 8 OS, the HTC 8X and Samsung Ativ S have similar software features and offer almost the same user experience.

Coming to the unique features of the upcoming Windows Phone 8 OS, it will be loaded with dynamic Live Tile Information, social network integration in the People hub, Skydrive and Office 365 documents synchronization, Facebook-events integrated calendar, visual voicemail, threaded email conversations support and more.

Camera: When it comes to the camera, both the smartphones have an 8MP rear camera with auto focus, LED flash and geo-tagging features.

However, the HTC 8X scores more as it has the BSI sensor, which is helps in capturing better quality images at low-light conditions and has a 2.1MP front camera while the Ativ S has a 1.9MP front camera.

Storage: In terms of storage, 8X has 16 GB internal memory and 512GB RAM, while Ativ S comes in two variants - 16GB/32GB internal memory and 1GB RAM.

Moreover, Ativ S has an external micro SD card slot for expandable memory, which is lacking in the HTC's offering.

Connectivity: On the connectivity front, both the handsets have features including NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth with A2DP and EDR and micro USB 2.0.

Battery: While the 8X is loaded with a 1,800 mAh Li-Po battery, Ativ S is loaded with a 2,300 mAh Li-ion battery.
