Android 15 Arriving Later This Week: Is Your Pixel Device Eligible for the Update?

Google has begun the gradual release of Android 15 for Pixel devices. Some users have already received the update, with a wider rollout expected later this week. The update is available for several Pixel models, including the Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, and newer models like the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9.

Android 15 Supported Devices

The list of supported devices includes Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro, and 6a; Google Pixel 7, 7 Pro, and 7a; as well as the Google Pixel Fold and Tablet. Additionally, the latest models such as Google Pixel 8, 8 Pro, and 8a are included. Although not initially listed, the Pixel 9 Pro XL and 9 Pro Fold will also receive updates.

Despite launching with Android 14 on September 9 instead of August 22 like the Pixel 9 Pro XL (Review) and Pixel 9 (Review), the Pixel 9 Pro and its foldable version will be updated to Android 15. This ensures that all recent devices benefit from the new features.

Android 15 Key Features

Android 15 introduces numerous enhancements. Noteworthy improvements include an efficient AV1 software decoder (dav1d), enhanced PDF handling capabilities, and improved font rendering. It also offers experimental support for ANGLE (Almost Native Graphics Layer Engine).

Users can now archive apps to free up space on their devices. A new feature allows creating a Private space for sensitive apps with an added layer of authentication. Moreover, new APIs enable apps to choose power efficiency over performance for specific tasks.

Android 15 Additional Enhancements

The update brings richer widget previews and picture-in-picture improvements. It enhances Do Not Disturb rules and provides dedicated support for cover displays on foldable phones. Satellite connectivity is also improved alongside NFC and Wallet functionalities.

A significant upgrade in large screen multitasking is part of Android 15's offerings. These features aim to enhance user experience across various device types.
