Android 15 Officially Released, But Wait There's a Catch (For Now)
Android enthusiasts, rejoice! Google has finally unveiled the official Android 15 source code. This means developers can now dig in and start building custom experiences based on the latest version of the mobile operating system. However, there's a slight delay for everyone else.
Source Code Available, Pixel Update Coming Soon
While the Android 15 source code is live on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) website, the public rollout for users isn't quite here yet. Google confirmed that Pixel devices, like the recently launched Pixel 9 series, will receive the update "in the coming weeks." This aligns with previous rumors suggesting an October release for Pixel phones.

Patience Required for Other Brands
If you own a non-Pixel phone, you'll need to wait a bit longer. Major brands like Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi are slated to receive Android 15 "in the coming months." Unfortunately, Google hasn't provided more specific timelines for individual manufacturers.
Security Patch for Pixel Users
While Pixel users wait for the full Android 15 upgrade, Google did roll out a September update for Pixel 6 and later models. This update remains on Android 14 but includes enhancements:
- Improved Wi-Fi stability and performance for Pixel 9 series phones.
- September 2024 security patch that addresses vulnerabilities and removes a third-party APK.
Looking Ahead for Developers
With the source code available, developers can get a head start on creating custom ROMs and modifications for Android 15. This can lead to exciting new features and experiences that users can eventually enjoy.
For everyone else, the wait for Android 15 continues. However, the official release is a positive step, and hopefully, the update will arrive sooner rather than later for both Pixels and other Android devices.
